2025 - 2026 GME Trainee Stipend |
University of Utah Health has approved a 2.5% increase to GME trainee stipends for FY2026 (effective July 1, 2025). Keep in mind that GME trainees also receive an increase to annual stipends with a PGY level change.
|
GME Trainee Retirement Funds
|
Reminder as of July 1, 2024, the University of Utah began making retirement contributions for GME trainees to the University’s 401(a) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan as follows:
|
- The University will contribute an amount equal to 1% of pay (increasing to 2% for 2025 - 2026 then 3% for 2026 -2027). Eligible trainees will be automatically enrolled. There is no match option.
- Only employees that are residents of the United States and those holding H-1B and O-1 Visas are eligible for retirement benefits in the 401(a) plan.
-
For trainees holding J-1 Visas, a flat quarterly amount will be contributed to a 403(b) plan.
- Grant paid trainees will be handled a little differently and we will contact these trainees directly to provide details.
-
Amounts contributed by the University are not subject to a vesting period; however, the plan has limitations on when employees can withdraw funds. See the UHRM website.
|
The default investment provider is TIAA; however, you may choose to have funds invested with Fidelity Investments. To change your investment provider, email AskHR@utah.edu.
If you previously worked for the University and were enrolled in a URS plan, Utah law requires that you be reenrolled in the same URS plan instead of the 401(a) Plan. If you have any questions about benefits, please contact the HR Solutions Center at 801-581-7447 or email AskHR@utah.edu for specific benefits options and information.
GME trainees are always able to contribute to the University’s 403(b) and 457(b) Plans. Information about those plans is available on the UHRM website.

This is a friendly reminder to complete the 2025-2026 flu vaccine requirement. |
-
Documentation must be uploaded to Medhub by 11/13
- Exemption requests must be submitted to HR by 10/31
|
Employees who do not provide documentation of their flu vaccine prior to 11/13, or who submit exemption requests after 10/31, may face disciplinary action. Plan ahead, submit early to avoid disciplinary action! |
Documentation Completion and Patient Care |
We have many reasons why it’s important to complete your documentation. The hospital does appreciate timeliness so bills can be dropped but Patient Care should always be reason #1. Keeping the continuation of care cycle current and available for the next in the line. Please review the Medical Record Requirement.
