Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day
Today, April 24th, is recognized as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. On this day, every year, we remember and commemorate the over 1.5 million Armenians who were killed at the hands of the Ottoman government. On April 24, 1915, Armenian intellectuals and community leaders were arrested and ultimately killed by Ottoman authorities, which marked the beginning of this campaign to exterminate the Armenian people. Many members of our Loyola community are the descendants of the survivors of this genocide. Today we join them in mourning those who were lost and honoring them through our commitment to never forgetting this history and working toward ending injustice and violations of human rights to achieve a world that is free of such atrocities.
