Dear ATMIA Members,
This past year has been one of growth, excitement, and (for members) increasing business. I am particularly pleased with the number of members using ATMIA as their first point of contact with industry issues at their place of business.
Our 2016 Canada conference in May this year was well attended by both members and non-members. Our town hall meeting at the event was very interactive between the panel and the audience. The attendees felt quite comfortable in the open forum session. It was a treat to have Catherine Johnston, President of ACT Canada, facilitate this portion of the program. Panellists included Todd Schneider, Kevin Rieschi, Jorge Odam, and Curt Binns. We received feedback on the venue, the most positive of all being that it was the perfect size for networking. It is therefore not surprising that numerous new business relationships were developed throughout the event as well. ATMIA President, Chris Chandler, gave a stirring speech on the need for collective industry advocacy in Canada, inspiring a round of donations for the all-important advocacy fund.
In the following month, I attended the ACT Annual conference in Niagara Falls. I facilitated the Fintech session of the program, which I felt privileged to do; it was a great way to develop new industry contacts. On October 17th and 18th, I attended the annual Everlink conference. Recently, I held a morning information session with The Canadian Bankers Association, which brought together several industry types attending to see what ATMIA has to offer.
Our GRC members have been active in keeping the ATM Industry out of the news when it comes to negative stories. This has been no small task. Negatively dated issues continue to emerge from Quebec, the western part of the country where Smash and Grabs have significantly increased beyond the triple digit mark. This activity has kept police agencies on their toes, even prompting the formation of a special task force. This is just one example where the police called ATMIA for industry information to assist them in combating crime.
I would like to encourage all members to become familiar with information–both new and ongoing–and tools being developed by ATMIA. You will find the Cash Repository (www.cashrepository.com) and our own member Market Intelligence Library being continually updated with material of interest to all members.
Thank you to all our members for your support throughout the year. This is greatly appreciated by me and all the staff at ATMIA.
Finally, I would like to wish all members and their families a very joyful holiday season.
Let’s make 2017 yet another big banner year, especially given that we will celebrate the dual anniversary of the 50th year of the ATM and ATMIA’s own 20th anniversary.
Warmest regards,
Curt Binns
Executive Director, ATMIA Canada
