A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Dear Alumni and Friends,
As the academic year draws to a close, it offers a meaningful moment to reflect on our achievements, set our sights on future goals, and express sincere gratitude to the alumni and parents whose continued support fuels our progress. Our academic excellence is consistently reflected in the rankings, and the graph below highlights a decade of steady growth in global research productivity ranking. While we remain focused on sustaining this momentum, I am equally dedicated to deepening our connections and fostering a vibrant community of economics alumni. We’re excited to offer new opportunities for engagement and warmly invite you to join us in building the Trojan Economics Alumni Network. I wish you all a wonderful summer.

Warmly,

Caroline

Alumni Evenings

In March, economics alumni came together for two engaging events on both coasts. In Los Angeles, Daniel Clancy ’16, organized a vibrant happy hour at the iconic Father’s Office in Culver City. In New York, Boris Arabadjiev PhD ’99 welcomed fellow alumni for an intimate dinner with Department Chair Caroline Betts. As we continue planning gatherings in more cities, we invite you to partner with us and help organize future alumni events in your community.

PhD Alumni Conference

The PhD Alumni Conference reunited faculty and graduates for meaningful academic exchange and collaboration. Held in memory of Professor Richard Easterlin, who passed in December 2024, the event honored the USC scholar known globally as the “Father of Happiness Economics” and for the Easterlin Paradox. His legacy inspired renewed connections shaping the department’s future.
