Be Well Breaks

Be Well continues to encourage all faculty and staff to engage in Be Well Breaks throughout the workday. This can include gentle stretching, having a healthy snack, or taking a lap around the office. Taking healthy breaks contribute to higher job satisfaction, productivity, and engagement.

The McClung Museum is hosting Mindfulness at the Museum events every Friday in February from 1-2 PM. Take a break out of your hectic schedule to refocus with a guided meditation among the artwork of Shane Pickett!

Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests

The Student Health Center Pharmacy now has rapid antigen tests available at no cost for insured individuals! There is no upfront cost under most insurance plans (including UTK faculty and staff plans!). For those whose insurance does not provide direct coverage, the tests are $11 for one test and $20 for two. Supplies are limited, so there is a limit of two tests per household member per visit. As always, Everlywell take home PCR tests are available at no charge to students, faculty, and staff.

Green Office Program

Does your office want to help support the university's goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2061 and 50% waste diversion by 2030? Join the Green Office Program through the Office of Sustainability!

Offices of all sizes are welcome and encouraged to participate in the program. Small actions can add up to big change! Some funds are available to assist offices with the cost of upgrades that will directly reduce their resource consumption. Check out the steps for certification to become a Green Office. Do you know a staff member who already engages in environmental stewardship, leadership, or activisim? Nominate them to be recognized as a UT Sustainability Champion.

February is American Heart Month

Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States, but there is a lot that you can do to protect your heart and stay healthy.

Ways to live a heart-healthy lifestyle:

Choose heart-healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Engage in healthy stress-reducing activities such as practicing meditation, trying relaxation techniques, and talking with friends, family, and other support systems.
Get regular physical activity! Aerobic activity benefits your heart and lungs the most. Examples include running, swimming, walking, bicycling, and dancing.
Get good quality sleep. Adults 18+ are recommended to get 7-9 hours of sleep a day. Sleep can also help heal and repair your heart and blood vessels.

Check out other heart-healthy living tips from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The Knox County Health Department also offers heart health classes with a Registered Dietitian to learn about healthy eating, exericse, weight management, and goal settting.
