Club sports for the win

More than 60 student-led clubs animate FLC's campus throughout the school year. This year, students started five new club sports teams with support from Recreational Services. These teams provide safe, healthy spaces for competition, community, and good ole fashioned fun.

Taking the ballad out of the ballot

The Official Ballot for La Plata County’s 2022 General Election is towering. To ease voter's vertigo, 18 FLC first-year students spent the last two months exploring each ballot initiative and creating informative content to pare these complicated issues into accessible language and images.

Jeff Saville, director of the Career & Life Design Center, met with the Southwest Colorado Education Collaborative at Ignacio High School to discuss how to build more career pathways for students in rural Colorado. Saville implored industry leaders to meet students where they are, not where they want them to be.

Runners on the FLC men's and women's cross country teams ran many of their fastest races ever at the UC Riverside Highlander Invitational in California. Katie Fankhouser and Ethan Bartlett both shattered school records, underscoring quality outings from the teams, who placed 10 out of the roughly 30 teams that competed. That's hawksome

The Mexican Consulate in Denver funded the IME-Becas Scholarship provided by El Centro de Muchos Colores for Mexican students or students with parents of Mexican origin. The IME-Becas is a matching scholarship between the Institute of Mexicans Abroad and the FLC President's Opportunity Fund.

Gyana Bandy Gomar, the assistant director of El Centro and the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center, secured the funds, and five students received $1,000-1,500 to cover their college expenses.
