It is with a heavy heart that I share news of the passing of a Laguna Honda Hospital resident on our COVID-19 unit. The resident tested positive for COVID-19 on December 1, 2020 and was transferred from North Mezzanine to our COVID-19 unit where they remained until their passing late on Friday, December 11, 2020.
We send our deepest sympathies to the resident’s family, their friends, and their Laguna Honda care team. We are thankful to this resident for being a part of our Laguna Honda family.
At Laguna Honda, our priority is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents; we will continue fighting this virus until it has been eradicated.
Since COVID-19 first arrived to LHH in March, we have all been painfully aware of the potential consequences of this deadly virus. With strong infection prevention and control protocols and frequent testing, we are catching cases early, but we know all too well that until this pandemic is over, LHH remains highly vulnerable. While we can slow the spread of COVID-19, it is devastating to be confronted with the reality that we could not completely stop it.
I commend our staff, who with dedication, compassion, and expertise care for all LHH residents and I thank our residents and resident families for your ongoing commitment to LHH.
Please know that I am here to support you during this time.
Resident Support services are available for all residents and their families. Residents are encouraged to call (628) 217-7331 to be connected to LHH psychiatry clinicians or call Reverend Bob Deel at (415) 759-3043 for spiritual guidance.
EAP Counselors are available 24/7 to support staff. Please call (628) 652-4600 or (800) 795-2351.
Please stay safe and stay healthy. Together we will get through this challenging year.
Sincerely,
Michael T. Phillips, MHA, FACHE
