"Looking back over the last decade, I’m constantly amazed at the progress the industry has made. Everyone should take great pride in brand South Africa. The cultural cringe is dead. Overall, I am extremely impressed with the quality of what I tasted in 2022, especially from the 2017 and 2021 vintages. I am more convinced than ever that 2017 deserves its place among the best-ever Cape harvests, as good as and, in some cases, even better than 2015. But I have a feeling that 2021 will equal and possibly surpass it. The best 2021s have remarkable energy and vivacity. I sincerely hope that the reviews and scores in my forthcoming report, as well as the Medals of Excellence given to producers whose wines have scored more than 90 points, will ensure that more people are made aware of the outstanding quality of South African wines. More than ever, we need to tell the world!"
