Student guide to using Canvas
As UIC continues to move from Blackboard to Canvas, Learning Technology Solutions has launched a Student Guide to Using Canvas to help students navigate the new learning platform. The guide includes FAQs, tutorials, support resources and tips for accessing courses and staying organized throughout the transition.
UIC launches Google AI Accelerator for Education
Starting this summer, UIC students will have free access to Google AI tools through their UIC Google Workspace account, including Gemini for brainstorming and writing support and NotebookLM for organizing and summarizing course materials. Google Career Certificates and short AI training courses will also be available. Learn more about the Google AI Accelerator for Education Program.
Google’s accessibility checker available
UIC students now have access to Grackle, a tool that helps identify and fix accessibility issues in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. Creating accessible content helps ensure everyone, including people using assistive technologies, can access and understand your content.

AI literacy program
UIC partnered with the WordPress Foundation to launch a new workforce-focused AI literacy course to help students build practical, real-world AI skills. Supported through the newly established UIC Tech Solutions Open Source Fund, the program combined hands-on learning, open-source technologies and career-focused training to prepare students for the evolving workforce.
The first cohort gave selected students training in generative AI, opportunities to earn a WordPress AI Leader micro-credential, access to collaborative workspaces and a $1,000 completion award. The initiative reflected UIC’s continued commitment to accessible, workforce-ready learning and advancing AI literacy across higher education.
UIC hosts inaugural Cybersecurity and Privacy Community Conference
Technology Solutions hosted the Cybersecurity and Privacy Community Conference, on April 13 that brought together experts, policymakers and members of the UIC community for a day of insight, dialogue and collaboration around today’s most pressing cybersecurity challenges and trends.

Cybercriminals are using fake calendar and event invitations to trick students into revealing login credentials and sensitive information. These phishing attempts may appear legitimate and often imitate trusted organizations or meeting platforms.
Remain cautious when opening unexpected invitations, clicking links or entering credentials online.
Awareness is an important part of maintaining a secure digital environment. Students should know what common scams they may encounter online, in their email or on their phone. Learn more at it.uic.edu/cyberscams.

Computational Research Symposium 2026
Advanced Cyberinfrastructure for Education and Research hosted its third annual Computational Research Symposium on April 20. Held at Student Center West as part of UIC’s Research Week, the event attracted over 100 participants from across the campus. The symposium included a poster competition highlighting the work of UIC students and postdoctoral researchers.
