The Jewish High Holidays begin this month and include Rosh Hashanah (9/25-27) and Yom Kippur (10/5). Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and the anniversary of the creation of the world in the Jewish tradition. Rosh Hashanah is the first of the Ten Days of Awe. Yom Kippur is the conclusion of the Ten Days of Awe and is the holiest and most solemn of all days in the Jewish year. It is observed by fasting, seeking forgiveness, and atonement.
There are a number of ways to observe the Jewish High Holidays at Emory. Please see below for some of the upcoming programming and check our website for updates.
OSRL Rosh Hashanah Hike Sunday, September 25, 5:30 p.m., Arabia Mountain
The Office of Spiritual and Religious Life is collaborating with Ma’alot, Moishe House, and 18 Doors to create a nature-based Rosh Hashanah celebration on Sunday evening September 25 at 5:30 p.m. at Arabia Mountain. This event is open to all in the Emory community and will be co-led by Rabbi Jordan Braunig and Rabbi Ariel Root-Wolpe. Registration is required and free. Emory Buddhist Chaplaincy Fall Retreat Saturday, October 1-Sunday, October 2, The Mountain Retreat Center, Highlands, North Carolina
We are hosting our free semesterly off-campus Buddhist retreat back at the beautiful Mountain Retreat and Learning Center in North Carolina. We will dive deeper into our practice of mindfulness and meditation as a group while fostering community. You don’t want to miss out. CAPS Fall Workshops and Resources
Emory Counseling and Psycohological Services is hosting a series of virtual workshops on Imposter Syndrome, Procrastination, Anxiety, and Avoiding Burnout. All sessions will take place on Zoom. Register here.

Support and Therapy Groups: CAPS is offering an International Student Drop-In Support Group (students do not need to be therapy clients in order to access international student support group, nor do they need to be located in the state of GA).
CAPS is also offering therapy groups. Therapy groups require that students are clients at CAPS and reside in GA. This semester’s therapy groups include: Black Graduate All-Gender Interpersonal Process Group, Graduate All-Gender Interpersonal Process Group, Black Girl Her’d Therapy Group, Grief & Loss Therapy & Support Group.
Emory Helpline: This student-run peer telephone line will run nightly from 9 p.m.-Midnight this semester.
TimelyCare: Emory has expanded medical and mental health support capacity to all Emory students, including those residing outside of GA, by offering telehealth via TimelyCare. TimelyCare offers: 24/7 TalkNow services (mental health consultation, anytime, anywhere), scheduled counseling appointments, scheduled psychiatric appointments, and on-demand and scheduled medical care. Students can download the TimelyCare app or go to timelycare.com/emory to set up an account using their Emory email address.

Sustainability Funds Applications Monday, September 26 at 8:00 a.m.
Emory's Office of Sustainability offers funding opportunities for Emory community members to implement new ideas and research that support innovation, knowledge-gathering, and positive behavior changes on campus. The General Sustainability and Social Justice, Green Lab, and Green Office grants are now open for the 2022-2023 academic year. Applications are due Monday, September 26 at 8:00 a.m.

Snack in a Backpack Service Project Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m., Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church
Snack in a Backpack provides food on Fridays to children who are at risk of hunger on the weekends. The program currently serves over 200 children as well as 38 refugee families. Volunteers gather on Thursday afternoons in the lower level of the Glenn UMC Church School Building behind the Sanctuary to set up, pack food bags, and load food into vehicles for school deliveries. Service shifts are normally 45 minutes and may consist of set up, packing food, cleaning up, loading and delivery. Contact Deborah Marlowe for information.
