Please join us for our Upper School Winter Arts Night this Thursday, December 7, 2017. The event will begin with an art opening at the Meem from 5:00 - 6:00 pm, followed by performances in the Driscoll Auditorium from 6:15 - 7:30pm. As a festive transition from the Visual Arts to the Performing Arts, there will also be an outdoor light installation to enjoy on the walk from the Meem to the Auditorium.

We hope you are able to join us as we celebrate our students' wonderful, inventive accomplishments from the fall term. We look forward to sharing music, performance, ceramics, sculpture, installation, printmaking, photography, drawing and painting.
See you there!

MODEL UNITED NATIONS 2017
Twenty Santa Fe Prep students attended the 56th annual New Mexico Model United Nations Session last month at the Roundhouse. This year, our students represented the countries of Great Britain, Denmark, and Brazil. Prep competed against high schools from around the state and our students did an excellent job! They worked on resolutions to solve real world problems, such as the immigration crises in Europe and Asia, the conflicts with North Korea, and Global Warming.
Congratulations to one of our teams who took home awards this year: Giacomo Coppola '18 and Sarbjot Jessop '18 (Best Delegates-Human Rights Committee).
Congratulations to all of our delegates for a job well done!
Tyler Axelrod '18, Pema Baldwin '18, Hayden Colfax '20, Justice Colfax '18, Abby Francis '20, Abelino Fernandez-Leger '18, Tucker Hastings '20, Parker Hailey '20, Nathan Hayes-Rich '18, Grant Hickey '20, Isaiah Hughes '20, Van Leeson '18, Laurel McIntyre '18, Joseph Murray '18, Sarina Suri '19, Landon Tafoya '18, Izzy Ungard '20 and Trevor Wilson '18.
ATHLETIC NEWS
The Swim and Dive team opened their season this past weekend by attending the Los Alamos Invite. There were a lot of early season state qualifiers on both boys and girls teams, including Riley Kinlaw '18 and Sophia Gossum '22. The Boys qualified the 200 medley relay and the 200 free style relay for state and finished tied for 3rd overall, with the girls team placing 7th out of 15 teams. Next week the team swims at the GCCC for the Demon Invite. The video above shows our swimmers participating in the annual Blue Griffin intra-squad challenge, where you will see Cypress Hayunga '18 fling Jack Dolan '23 out of bounds!

The Girls Middle School Basketball team wrapped up their season with a narrow loss to St. Charles in the APIAL Tournament on Friday. The quick season saw encouraging improvement from the young team. The Boys Middle School Basketball team looks to begin practice this week in preparation for their season opener after the holiday break.

The Girls Varsity Basketball team, playing with only 7 athletes, staged an amazing comeback in the second half against ATC last week, but ultimately fell short of winning the game. The Boys Varsity Basketball team just completed the SFIS Tournament and earned a 7th place finish by beating the NACA Eagles on Saturday. They also wrap up their December contests when they host East Mountain HS on December 5 at 6:30 pm and ATC on Saturday, December 9 at 6:30 pm.
On the sword-fighting front, there have been a few competitions in the past month featuring Prep athletes. In early November, the New Mexico Fencing Federation hosted a tournament which saw high finishes from Riley Brislawn '22 and Annie Schultz '17, currently on a GAP year before college. In a second tournament this past weekend, both Annie and Riley succeeded again, this time taking first place honors, and Riley and John Allison '21 earned National D and E ratings respectively. Congratulations to the fencing program!

CULTIVATING PURPOSE
Dear Prep Community,
We are in the process of reaching out to each of you to ask for your support of our annual fund—some of you have been contacted by us in the Advancement Office already or by our fantastic annual fund Ambassadors; some of you will be reached soon, and many of you have already donated—thank you!

This year as a community, we need to raise $620,000, which is $60,000 more than we needed to raise last year! As you may know, tuition does not cover the cost of what moves a Prep education from good to great. Every dollar you donate to Santa Fe Prep is tax-deductible and helps cultivate purpose in our students so that their education is personal, exceptional, and everlasting.

If you have not had a chance to donate, please click here to do so now or contact Director of Advancement Kézha Hatier-Riess with any questions or to talk more—505.795.7526 or khatier-riess@sfprep.org.
Thank you, from the entire Prep community!
GRANDPARENTS' DAY WAS GREAT!
Prep’s annual Grandparents’ Day took place on Tuesday, November 21 and we had over 100 grandparents attending—one from as far away as Australia, another from France, many from throughout the United States, as well as a number who live in town but have not had a chance to visit Prep. The beauty of the day is watching the grandparents talk with their grandchildren, savoring the time they have alone with them, and learning more about their education here and the young adults their grandchildren are becoming. Click here for a glimpse of the day!
PREP RUMMAGE SALE
RUMMAGE SALE—accepting donations; time to purge before the holidays! Both you and your rummage make our spring SALE an enormous success. Please gather those great items you don’t need and donate them to our sale. To make donating as easy as possible, we are having a rummage drop-off on Thursday, December 7. Please bring gently used and clean items to our storage container behind the gym, from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Please no old electronics, mattresses, or encyclopedias. For more information, contact Rummage Chair Julie Murray. Also if you have items that are too big for your car—we can pick up at your house!

GRIFFIN
SHOUT OUT
& THANKS

At the Santa Fe Prep Spelling Bee, which took place on Wednesday, November 29, Camille Kruger '22 and Lilia Holladay '23 went six rounds after the other participants had been eliminated. Camille correctly spelled "vociferous" to win the Bee. Both students have qualified to participate in the County Spelling Bee on January 19 at the Santa Fe Community College. Good luck to both Griffins!
Thank you to Anna Mirabal-LeJeune for organizing our first Native Feast at Prep last month; thank you to all the faculty & staff who helped bring the event to fruition on behalf of our Native students; and most of all, thank you to the Moquino, Talachy and Romero families for sharing Native culture with the Santa Fe Prep community.
SAFE DRIVING
With a number of sophomores getting their licenses, winter weather on the horizon, and a few months of school under our belt, here's an opportunity to remind all of us who drive to and from schooland on campusto take special care with the many pedestrians we all encounter.

1.) After drop-off in the morning, right turns only out of the main drive to campus onto Cruz Blanca. If you need to turn left, please use the exit drive to the east accessed through the faculty lot.

2.) No dropping off students or cutting through the IHM parking lot.

3.) Many of you approaching school from the east in the morning are graciously allowing those from the west to make a left turnwe thank you!

4.) Please yield to students crossing to school from the IHM lot.

5.) Speed limit on campus is 10 mph . . . and keep an eye out for students who might be thinking about getting to their next class rather than car traffic!

6.) After school, please park only around the outside of the circle to allow other cars to cycle through. Even better, pick your child up at the Meem.

Many thanks for helping to keep everyone safe!
