You've Got Mail
It’s been busy in Mail Services since students returned to campus. Most days, you can find Mail Clerk Michael Fitzgerald sorting mail and packages, as well as assisting students, faculty, and staff with their postal needs. Fitzgerald helps manage the flow of every incoming and outgoing piece of mail for the entire 98416 ZIP code dedicated to our campus—everything from mini fridges to specimens bound for dissection in the biology labs. Before coming to Puget Sound, Fitzgerald ran Destiny City Comics in Tacoma’s Stadium District, and he continues to spend his free time reading comic books and graphic novels, including some rare editions he’s been able to access through Collins Memorial Library’s interlibrary loan system.

Students help perform maintenance on rain gardens at Wainwright Intermediate School in Fircrest

SAVING FOR A RAINY DAY Prof. Dan Sherman’s Fundamentals of U.S. Environmental Law and Policy class visited Wainwright Intermediate School in Fircrest, Wash., in conjunction with Pierce Conservation District to help maintain the school’s rain gardens. In addition to clearing brush and spreading fresh woodchips throughout the area, students learned about storm water policy, permitting, and healthy rain garden upkeep. Rain gardens like those at the school offer an extremely cost-effective way to filter pollutants out of runoff water before it reaches the Puget Sound.
