SPECIAL Stronger Together Mask Mandate Update
As you may know, a New York State Supreme Court issued a ruling yesterday (Monday, January 24) regarding the mask mandate for K-12 schools and other indoor locations. New York State filed an appeal overnight in an effort to overturn the decision.
PLEASE NOTE that Stony Brook University’s policy remains in effect and unchanged. All faculty, staff, students and visitors must continue to wear face coverings while inside all University and Hospital buildings – regardless of their vaccination status. This includes classrooms, hallways, libraries and other common spaces, as well as on SBU buses and shuttles.
This mandate also applies to the Health Sciences and Basic Sciences Towers, offices in Flowerfield, Tech Park, Ronkonkoma and Commack locations, and administrative areas within outpatient facilities and physician practices.
Face coverings are not required inside personal rooms of residence halls/apartments, while eating/drinking, and within individual office spaces (e.g., cubicle or office) or in non-public-facing personal workstations. Please, however, continue to social distance as appropriate in these situations. Masks are also not required outdoors.
For SBU’s latest specific mask guidelines, please refer to our January 18 Stronger Together Update. We will continuously monitor, reassess and adapt to changing data and guidance, keeping you informed as conditions evolve.
