Experiential learning helps students bridge the gap between knowing and doing. Through experiences like internships, summer research, volunteering, and more, students expand their network, develop valuable skills, and take a step toward future goals. All Puget Sound students are required to complete at least one form of Experiential Learning before they graduate by taking part in an internship, study abroad, summer research, or community-based learning.
The Experiential Learning team is committed to meeting students where they are in their journey through our signature programs that offer supportive cohort models and grant-funded opportunities. Experiential Learning courses in the Career Development Sequence help students explore their interests, utilize career-related resources, and take their best next step. Summer and fall are the perfect time to plan experiences for the upcoming year!
Encourage your student to stop by Howarth Hall, Room 005, browse our website, or schedule a meeting with a member of the team to learn more.

Important Dates & Reminders
|
Here are some of the program deadlines to be on the lookout for starting next semester:
The Puget Sound Internship Grant (PSIG) is available at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters and allows students to apply for competitive grant funding if they are engaging in uncompensated internships during the semester. Students can learn more and start their application process on the PSIG website.
Community Engagement Initiative (CEI) grant applications are open the first two weeks of each term. Experiential Learning will award funding on a rolling basis until funding has been expended. Learn more on the CEI website.
Study Abroad applications for summer, fall, and spring are due at the end of January for the year ahead. Students who are interested in studying abroad should start the exploration process as early as possible. Students can get the process started by using our step-by-step guide.
Summer Fellowship Internship (SFI) Program applications are typically due at the end of February. SFI supports students who would like to gain experience interning for nonprofit or public sector organizations through cultivated, grant funded internship positions in Tacoma. Students can learn more on the SFI Website.
Summer Research applications are typically due in early March. Working with a faculty mentor, summer research students receive a grant to conduct high-level, independent work and expand their understanding of their field while honing professional skills. Students can learn more on the Summer Research website.

Commencement Weekend | May 9–11, 2025
|
We’re thrilled to welcome family and friends to campus to celebrate our graduating students during Commencement Weekend, May 9–11, 2025. The final stages of your student’s journey at Puget Sound will be enjoyable and filled with excitement, but there are several tasks they need to complete before graduation day.
|
Visit the Commencement webpage for all the essential details for Commencement Weekend, along with a comprehensive schedule of weekend activities, including department receptions, and much more. For questions, email the Office of Events at commencement@pugetsound.edu.

The Office of Alumni & Parent Relations (APR) is excited to welcome the Class of 2025 to our alumni community! Each year, APR provides a gift to the graduating class that is handed out during Grad Fair. If your student was unable to attend the Grad Fair and missed the chance to collect their senior gift, we invite them to drop by our office in Jones Hall, Room 102, through the end of April. Or they can contact Anya Lipkowitz ’24, Alumni & Parent Relations office manager, at alipkowitz@pugetsound.edu to arrange a time to pick up their gift.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month
|
Advocacy organizations throughout the United States have designated April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month—an opportunity to focus our attention and efforts on educating ourselves and others about all forms of sexual violence in order to root it out of our relationships and culture.
On campus, the Bystander Revolution Against Violence (BRAVe) program works to create and facilitate programming for the campus community to address issues of sexuality, healthy relationships, consent, and sexual violence prevention. The BRAVe program collaborates with campus partners, both on-campus and in the community, to start conversations and educate our community members on these important topics.
The BRAVe program's biggest annual initiative is Sexual Assault Awareness Month every April. Click below to learn about what events and initiatives are taking place this month.
