You may be interested in the Boren Awards Program! Boren Fellows receive up to $30,000 to pursue language study, research or internships abroad. Boren Awards fund study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Basic Eligibility Requirements:

U.S. citizen at the time of the national application deadline
- Planning an overseas program in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
- Planning to study in a country of which you are not a citizen
- Matriculated at GW for the duration of their Boren Awards-funded program

Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Programs |
|
|
|
The Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program (SIFP) offers opportunities for independent research or study related to Smithsonian collections, facilities, and/or research interests of the Institution and its staff. Fellowships are offered to graduate students, predoctoral students, and postdoctoral and senior researchers to conduct independent research and to utilize the resources of the Institution with members of the Smithsonian professional research staff serving as advisors and hosts.

Graduate Student Fellowship |
Term: 10 weeks
Award Type: $10,000 stipend
Basic Eligibility Requirements:
|
- Enrolled graduate student
- Completed at least one full-time semester of graduate program before appointment begins
- Intended for students who have not yet been advanced to candidacy if in a doctoral program
|
| Term: 3 to 12 months
Award Type: $45,000 annual stipend and up to $5,000 in research allowance
Basic Eligibility Requirements:

- Enrolled doctoral candidate conducting dissertation research
- Completed all requirements for degree other than dissertation
- University approval of the undertaking of dissertation research through SIFP
|

|
USAID Science for Development Fellowships |
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) established the Science for Development Fellowships program (SDF), as a two-year experiential professional development opportunity for American scientists and engineers to work at USAID and apply their expertise and research skills to inform the U.S. government’s international development activities and support their success.
Award Type: Annual salary at the GS-12 or GS-13 level

- U.S. Citizen
- Hold a qualifying doctorate degree in a STEMM discipline (science, technology, engineering, math, medicine), including social sciences, or a Master's degree in engineering completed by December 31, 2024
|
National Institute of Health Loan Repayment Program |
The NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) are designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers.
Award Type: Repayment of up to $50,000 of qualified educational debt annually

Basic Eligibility Requirements:

U.S. citizen, U.S national, or permanent resident of the U.S. by the award start date
- Possess a qualifying doctoral degree

Opportunity to Provide Feedback |
The Student Government Association is launching three student-led initiatives focused on free speech, financial transparency, and campus inclusion. These groups will recommend policies to the university and foster open dialogue.
All of these initiatives have been thoroughly reviewed and approved by the university administration. They will involve a diverse array of participants, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni to ensure that the entire GW community feels fully supported.
