We encourage you to visit us on Twitter/X at @research_sis to see more about what our faculty have been up to. To name just a few, in the past few months our faculty were busy writing and talking about:
| Jeff Bachman: Genocide Studies: Pathways Ahead (Oct 22)
Emily Sample (Fund for Peace) and Esther Brito Ruiz joined Jeff in an important discussion about genocide, including its definition and whether that matters, and how genocide has changed in the 21st century.
| Ken Conca: After the Floods: The Search for Resilience in Ellicott City (Oct 30)
Based on lived experience and interviews with residents, Ken's book explores how a small town in Maryland responded to two recent events of catastrophic flooding. He catalogs how the community has (and hasn't) built its resilience to climate change and the role of local organizing and politics.
| Akbar Ahmed: The Flying Man: The Golden Age of Islam & its Contribution to Science (Nov 12)
Distinguished Professor Akbar Ahmed and an interfaith panel discussed his new book "The Flying Man" and what its themes of cross-religious knowledge and understanding during Andalusia's "golden age" of Islam can teach us about today's world.
