Project Management Practical Training Program (PMPT) |
Cost: Free!
Are you interested in learning about project management and its application at UC San Diego? Perhaps you are looking for a starting point to gain the knowledge and skills needed to eventually obtain a Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification or enroll in advanced project management courses through UCSD Extended Studies?
PMPT is a blended learning program, incorporating online learning, live discussion sessions, social learning and mentorship, plus project work to prepare the next wave of project managers at UCSD. You will learn the entire project management process, pick up useful techniques, and network with staff that are passionate about project management.
Requirements:

- Obtain supervisor approval, if work hours are used to participate in program
- Commit to an estimated 24 hours for the program
- 5 hours for self-paced online learning
- 6 hours for SME-led live sessions
- 2 hours for Project Presentations
- 9 hours (estimate) for project work
- 2 hour (estimate) for social learning (Canvas and Mentorship)
- All self-paced eCourses in the UC Learning Center
- Attendance and participation in the live discussion sessions
- Participation in the Canvas discussion on a regular basis
- Submission of a project and presentation

- Kick Off Session: Welcome; Program Introduction; Business Case

Discussion Session 1: Project Charter; Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
- Discussion Session 2: Resource Loaded Schedule; Preliminary Budget; Risk Register, Communication Management Plan
- Project Presentations: brief project presentations, closing remarks and next steps

Note:
This course is offered free of charge. A CoA Project and Task number is required to secure a seat in the program. You will not be charged if you complete the program. Participants that cancel after the cancelation deadline or do not complete the course will be assessed a $100 fee.
