After four years' hiatus, this year the Office of Undergraduate Admissions has invited 1,300 students from high schools around China to visit the New Bund campus for three weekends filled with activities to showcase NYU Shanghai and assess whether they’d be a good fit.

While he was a student at NYU Shanghai, Xavier Ante '18 was inspired to delve into the economic relationship between Shanghai and the rural countryside. Ante discusses his current research at the University of Chicago on the Chinese timber trade that links Shanghai to Guizhou Province.

• Over a hundred students attended the public event hosted by Professor Zhihong Chen on March 19 as part of the course "Reading and Viewing Modern China." The guest speakers from three top companies were warmly welcomed by NYU Shanghai Chancellor Tong Shijun and Associate Vice Chancellor Ding Shuzhe. Min Chen, Partner at China Peakedness Capital and former Executive Director of J.P. Morgan's Hong Kong office, gave an overview of the recruitment processes and operational models for global banks. Allison Gao, Senior Manager at Bain & Company's Shanghai office, shared about life as a management consultant, emphasizing the importance of communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Two HR heads from Noah Holdings, Elaine Yin and Jade Cui, shared their knowledge of the wealth management sector and service expansion models and offered special internship and job opportunities for NYU Shanghai students.

• At "Beyond Gravity," the March 20 panel talk hosted by Assistant Professor of Practice in Interactive Media Business (IMB) Nicole Wang, students delved into the fascinating world of immersive storytelling with theater producer Lucia Xiaoran Zhu and Sensetime's Isabel Le—both key players in the " 3-Body Problem Beyond Gravity Immersive Experience" Production. They shared how their team used AR, VR, AI, and interactive animations to transform the acclaimed series "The Three-Body Problem" into an immersive interstellar journey. They also shared invaluable insights into their career paths, encouraging students to explore and discover their passions.

• At the Firefly Children's Library, students taking Advanced Chinese I took part in an "Intercultural Salon" led by Senior Language Lecturer of Chinese Chai Jing. Mingling with local Chinese families, they shared both native and non-native language learning perspectives on viewing Chinese characters. Collaborating in groups, they used a bilingual approach to decipher reversed character riddles created by international students from NYU Shanghai and then designed their own!

• Visiting Arts Professor of Interactive Media Business (IMB) Margaret Minsky's work was spotlighted at the " Glow: Illuminating Innovations" exhibition at King’s College London, celebrating women in digital arts and technology. Not stopping there, Minsky also brought her expertise to a virtual panel discussion, shedding light on the inspiring journey of women in the digital arts.

Astronomers have mapped the largest-ever glowing black holes, called quasars, in the universe. "This quasar catalog is different from all previous catalogs in that it gives us a three-dimensional map of the largest-ever volume of the universe," said Professor of Physics and Data Science David Hogg, co-creator of the map.
