Celebrating 20 Years of Year-Round Gratitude
Every day I look out of my office windows and marvel at the sight I am seeing—students chatting in the courtyard, basketball players practicing in the gym, and teachers directing students to their next classes. But several weeks ago, I saw a new image outside my window—exploring our new campus were the donors, partners, and friends that made this dream a reality and the work we do a possibility.
In October, we hosted both our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and our Fall Benefit Dinner & Auction, and at both events, I was amazed at what I was seeing. Our hallways, classrooms, gym, and commons were filled with Knight Nation supporters who give to De La Salle and allow this beautiful work to continue.
Thank you for twenty years of believing in our mission. Thank you for the gifts that made our new campus a reality. Thank you for the gifts that make each year of education for our students possible. Thank you for being a part of our Knight Nation community.

Puppet Labs Provides DLSNC’s First Satellite Office for Student Workers
We know that the ideal CWSP learning scenario is to have our students working in the workplace alongside their coaches and mentors, however, as COVID continues to challenge us, we realized that we needed a Plan B for the 2021-22 academic year.
The idea of a CWSP satellite office bubbled up as we thought, “If the rest of the world can work virtually, why can't our students?” Thanks to the commitment of Puppet’s amazing team (Morgan Armstrong, Laura Nichols, and Lupita Pech), Puppet generously offered to support our program by providing a beautiful c. 5,000 square foot office space, all furniture, and free WiFi (in addition to employment for three students)!
Today 12 corporate partners such as The Standard, Open Sesame, and Momentive host 40 DLSNC students weekly at the satellite office. Among them is Ruth Tsegaye ‘22 who works for Wieden + Kennedy. Tsegaye commented, “The office has a really good vibe, the views are great, and it’s fun to hear and see what the other kids are doing for work.”

Dream Bigger, Fly Higher Benefit Dinner & Auction Surpasses Fundraising Goal
250 guests enjoyed a gorgeous night at our new campus and contributed $618,000 to our financial aid program! COVID protocols were closely followed in order to host guests for drinks in the Courtyard, a silent auction in the Commons, a Passport Tour through the hallways and classrooms, and dinner and a live auction in the Michael Kelley Gymnasium.
DLSNC honored Senka Lenn and Cathy Myers with the 2021 Cassin Award for Commitment to Mission for their incredible service this year on our Construction Project Team. Click here to watch the award presentation. Thank you to everyone who attended or donated, helping us surpass our event goal!

Crime Scene Forensics at DLSNC
The forensics students wrapped up one of their first major hands-on labs of the year this month. Some of the most important tasks given to forensic scientists are the protection of evidence and the documentation of the crime scene, and students practiced those skills in a mock crime scene on the new DLSNC campus.
Often in television, crime scene investigators (CSIs) are shown collecting evidence, testing that evidence, and also having a hand in finding suspects. Our recent lab focused on what happens in the real world—the student CSIs were tasked only with collecting evidence and recording and preserving the crime scene, reducing the potential of bias.
By the end of the school year, students will have studied the roles and responsibilities of many forensic scientists and will take the role of detectives to solve a mock crime. It will be the culmination of a lot of work and time in the lab and will give them a great perspective and understanding of the entire field of forensic science.

Ribbon Cutting Officially Opens New Campus
October 15 was a blustery, wet fall day, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the 150 members of Knight Nation who gathered to celebrate the opening of De La Salle North Catholic’s sparkling new campus. Brother Chris Patiño’s opening prayer summarized the day’s purpose beautifully, “We give thanks for the hands that labored with dedication and hard work to construct this new home; We give thanks for the creativity of all those who were involved in the designing and implementation of the architectural vision that came to life; We are grateful for the many individuals who have generously shared from their treasure and made this dream possible.” There was palpable excitement in the air amongst the donors, project partners, politicians, representatives from St. Charles, board, and staff in attendance. It took so much to get to this moment, and it was a thrill to celebrate and officially open the campus to our community!

Knight Nation is proud to share that our Capital Campaign Committee was named the 2021 Outstanding Volunteer Group by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Oregon & SW Washington Chapter Philanthropy Day awards!
