In August, Nitesh Chawla, founding director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society, shared his insights on generative AI for good during a panel discussion at an international conference in Barcelona, Spain.
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) conference invites data mining researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to share their ideas, research results and experiences. Other panelists included Joleen Liang of Squirrel AI and George Karypis of Amazon Web Services and the University of Minnesota.

| Democracy Catalyst Grants Available

The Democracy Initiative seeks to support new research, formation, and convening projects on campus that further the study and strengthening of democracy.
The Democracy Catalyst Fund is explicitly aimed at catalyzing new areas of inquiry or programming.

Examples of the types of projects funded include:
|
- Data gathering and fieldwork (all levels of scholarship)
- Research assistants (both graduate and undergraduate)
- Surveys and experiments
- Course development (limited to $5,000)
- Workshops
- Conferences
- Speaker honoraria

Spend an evening overlooking the iconic field at Notre Dame Stadium as Michael Levitt, Ph.D., who won the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, accepts the Rev. Carrier Medal.
Levitt is being honored for his groundbreaking work in developing accurate computer models of chemical reactions, integrating features of both classical physics and quantum mechanics. His lecture, "Multi-disciplinary Revolution in Biology and Artificial Intelligence," will underscore the critical role of collaboration that will drive the next revolution in biology and AI.
