Community Coming Together

It takes a community working together to end homelessness, and last month we saw that community spirit in action.

Thanks to the generosity of volunteers, local businesses, and community partners, Tyrone House—an LA Family Housing (LAFH) interim housing site—was able to welcome families back after the property owner made extensive renovations and improvements. Nearly 30 associates from nine local Home Depot stores volunteered to set up the rooms, demonstrating Home Depot’s longstanding commitment to give back to its communities. What made that even more special is the overwhelming support from local businesses, who donated furniture, linens, and cleaning supplies to help ensure families have everything they need to settle in comfortably.

Meet the Families at Tyrone House

For many of the families who recently moved into Tyrone House, it took just one crisis to turn stability into homelessness. After weeks or months of uncertainty, many found refuge in LAFH's motel program. While the program provided a safe place to stay, motel living can have limitations for families. That's why we were thrilled to welcome families to Tyrone House, which was designed specifically with them in mind.

A Welcoming Space for Families in Boyle Heights

Thanks to generous support from our longtime partner, The Ahmanson Foundation, we recently completed major renovations at Casa de Comunidad Cariño (CCC), formerly known as Comunidad Cesar Chavez. Recently renamed with input from LAFH staff, CCC is an interim housing site in Boyle Heights that provides shelter and support to 27 families.

The project included upgrades to residential units, as well as critical repairs throughout the property. As one of LAFH’s oldest interim housing sites for families, these improvements will help ensure that CCC remains a safe, welcoming, and stable environment where families can begin to rebuild their lives and take meaningful steps toward permanent housing—and that it remains a cornerstone of support for generations to come.
