Happy New Year 2022

Dear ECELP Families,
Welcome back! Happy New Year!

I would like to reflect on our journey last as we often do each January.  Last year, through our diligence and commitment to COVID protocols, we experienced low levels of COVID-related illnesses in both children and staff.  As you know, with the recent upsurge of the Omicron COVID strain, we have reinstituted mandatory masking indoors for adults and recommended masking for children 2 - 5 years, as per CDC guidelines.

While we hope this "wave" is over soon, let’s take a moment to reflect on the wins from last year.
  • Maintained high standards for teachers and teaching assistants – 100% of staff earned the Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate, with 87% lead teachers holding at least a bachelor’s degree, including 3 teachers who hold master's degrees.
  • Promoted the B-K Teacher Certification, and currently have teachers at the ECELP working toward certification.
  • Maintained federal funding for student families attending the ECELP.
  • Maintained NAEYC teacher:child ratios to provide the highest level of care for young children.
  • The Parent Auxilary Council (PAC) hosted multiple events that both raised funds for the preschool and helped to foster a continued sense of community.
  • As the flagship for the State of Louisiana, our preschool is a living, learning laboratory. As such, we are committed to creating and disseminating cutting-edge research, as well as pursuing external grant funding. I am thrilled to report that we received over $700,000 from the Louisiana Department of Education to support the activities of the preschool.
  • Within all of these collective endeavours, we were also able to give our teachers raises, moving them closer to public school teachers salaries. This is important in retaining highly qualified teachers at the ECELP.
We are so happy to welcome your children back to the center and hope you had a wonderful break.  We are committed to keeping your children safe, healthy and thriving during our current circumstances.

Best,
Cyndi
Executive Director

Drop off/Pick up

In addition to mandatory adult masking and recommended child masking for children 2 - 5 years, we will continue the procedure of dropping off children at the classroom back door, accessed through the playground.
The gates will be open each morning from 7:15am - 9:00am and in the afternoon from 3:45pm - 5:00pm. Please come to the front entrance outside of these time periods.
We encourage families to bring children to the preschool before 9 AM. We understand that there will be days when a child has doctor’s appointments or other commitments that result in late arrival to the LSU ECELP.
The LSU ECELP closes at 5:15 PM. A fee of $20.00 will be charged for any portion of the first 15-minute period overtime, plus a $5.00 per minute thereafter.

Annual Enrollment

As part of our 2022-2023 enrollment, we will be sending an electronic "intent to return" notice shortly.

LSU President's Visit

LSU President William Tate visited the LSU Preschool, along with our special guest Diane Goyette. In addition to touring the facility, the President visited Preschool II during center time and interacted with the children.

Wastewater Testing

The ECELP has been participating in the LSU Wastewater Testing system. This system identifies buildings with high levels of the virus and makes recommendations for when testing is recommended. You can view this online here.

Teacher of the Month -  Emily DuBoulay

Emily received PK-3 Teacher Certification in 2020 and is currently working on her master's degree in early childhood here at LSU.  What she loves best about working with preschool children is helping them development social-emotional skills, which she believes are foundational for future success in school and in life.
We are fortunate to have Emily as part of the ECELP team!
