Welcome to “Bethesda Mobility Solutions”

Drum Roll, Please:
You are looking at Bethesda Transportation Solutions’ newly rebranded newsletter, now known as Bethesda Mobility Solutions instead of Bethesda Commuter Solutions.
Why the Change? We wanted a name that better fit your lived experience.
  • More of you are working from home rather than “commuting” to a job site.
  • More of you are relying on our services for non-work-related trips.
  • And “mobility” just better captures what we’re all about at BTS: helping you get around in a variety of ways to enjoy all that downtown Bethesda offers.
What’s Not Changing: The newsletter’s content will remain the same: information that keeps you updated on transportation services, special events, program changes — as well as engaging stories about how people and businesses in downtown Bethesda are making the most of today’s mobility options.
Share-able: Feel free to forward this newsletter each month to the neighbors, colleagues and friends you think would benefit. Invite them to subscribe so it will come to their inbox automatically.
What Do You Think? We’re always looking for ways to serve you better. So, your suggestions are welcome at any time. Let us know what else you’d like to see covered in Bethesda Mobility Solutions!

Save the Date: Annual Walk & Ride Challenge Starts Oct. 9

Sadly for summer lovers, but gladly for fans of fall, October is right around the corner. So, downtown Bethesda employees, mark your calendars for the 2023 Walk & Ride Challenge. This year’s challenge runs (umm, walks) from October 9 through October 27.
Get Ready: It’s time to start recruiting your coworkers, breaking in new walking shoes, and warming up your stride. The objective: Walk 10,000 or more steps each week. You can participate as part of a team of three to five people.
How to Start: You’ll need a pedometer or phone app to track your steps. And, you’ll need to register on our special Challenge website, which enables you to report your steps daily or weekly. The website will go live in September. Watch the BTS website for the announcement: BethesdaTransit.org.
You Could Win: Reporting your steps will enter you into a drawing to win great weekly prizes, enjoy occasional scavenger hunts, as well as possibly win the grand prize at the end of the Challenge. The top three teams with the highest average number of logged steps receive a team prize (first, second and third place).
Walk, Walk, Walk: You can track your steps anywhere and everywhere — as long as they are taken from the time you start your commute until you return home.
  • Walk to and from the Metro station, to and from the bus stop, to and from work, and even to your home computer from your kitchen!
  • Walk to a new restaurant for lunch, or if you brought food from home, go out for a long walk instead of working at your desk while you eat.
  • Walking and transit is an ideal combination. You might not live close enough to your job to walk to work. So, ride Metrorail and walk from the Metro station or your bus stop to your workplace.
More Info: Stay tuned for more details next month. Meanwhile, bookmark the Walk & Ride Challenge page on BTS’ website so you can easily share it with colleagues and teammates.
Bike to Work Day Sponsor Spotlight
Each issue of our newsletter for the last few months highlighted several Bike to Work Day pit stop table sponsors who were at the event. This month, we feature Pedego Electric Bikes, Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail, and Potomac Pedalers.

Pedego Electric Bikes Bethesda
  • “We participated because we wanted to raise awareness and help educate people that e-bikes offer an attractive alternative to the usual bicycle commute. They allow a wider range of riders to use a bicycle for commuting. And they reduce one's carbon footprint.” – David Bondareff, Owner, Pedego Electric Bikes Bethesda
  • Summer Sale: “We have a fantastic Summer Promo: All bikes are on sale, with savings up to $500 off ending 8/31/2023.”
  • Events: “We are also talking with the Montgomery County Parks Department about having an introduction to e-bikes and Demo Day on the closed section of Little Falls Parkway. Dates TBD.” Learn more at: https://pedegoelectricbikes.com/dealers/bethesda/

Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail
“We actually participated at two locations for Bike to Work Day, at the Bethesda location and the Capital Crescent Trailhead in Georgetown. Participating in downtown Bethesda was a great opportunity for us to speak with regular users of the Capital Crescent Trail and hear their thoughts, concerns, and recommendations. We enjoy engaging with the various users of the trail to ensure that we are advocating for the needs they express and continue strengthening the safety, usability, and enjoyment of this wonderful public resource. Also, at both locations, we gave out free bike bells to cyclists so that they can easily signal that they intend to pass walkers and runners on the trail.” – David Kosub, CCCT Board Member
  • Board Meeting: Board meetings of the Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail are open to the public. This year’s annual board meeting — which will be virtual — is scheduled for September 11 at 7:00 p.m. The community is welcome to attend.
  • Events: The CCCT also distributes free bells and reflective wristbands to trail users at “Bells and Bands” events scheduled periodically throughout the year. Visit the calendar at https://www.cctrail.org for more info.

Potomac Pedalers
“Potomac Pedalers members travel roads and trails across the D.C. metro area, often to and from work, so it is a privilege for our organization to participate in Bike to Work Day, to represent these thousands of riders, and to celebrate recent and future progress in safe and fun bicycling to which BTWD makes an invaluable contribution.” – Stephen Mink
  • Events: Brewery Ride from Two Story Chimney Ciderworks, Saturday, August 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Two Story Chimney Ciderworks is located at 7115 Damascus Road in Gaithersburg. See details on the calendar at the Potomac Pedalers website: https://www.potomacpedalers.org.
  • Free Trial Membership:
“Take advantage of our one-month free trial membership if you’re not yet a member or if you are still pondering joining straightaway."
