Dear Industry professional,
As the world now starts plans for the post-pandemic phase, there’s never been a more important time for industry stakeholders to consider participating in the consortium for next-gen ATMs. With over 320 companies worldwide are now participating in the association’s global future-proofing exercise to create a new API App model for ATMs, integrating the 50 plus year-old technology of ATMs into the emerging mobile-digital ecosystem.
“There’s a massive groundswell of support and enthusiasm across all sectors of the industry for the project to make ATMs relevant for a new generation of customers. The new App-based ATMs will provide fast, convenient access to cash and a range of digital services.” Mike Lee, CEO of ATMIA and Chairperson of the Consortium for Next Gen ATMs, The global blueprint for the new ATMs can be understood by viewing this 3-minute video - click here.
ATMIA continues to advocate and defend the role of cash. Ensuring cash remains a resilient part of the global payment system, especially during this pandemic has been and will be an important part of our mission. We remind Industry stakeholders of our webpage providing fact-based messages about how the coronavirus pandemic affects us and our industry. For more details click here.
We also encourage all industry stakeholders to start planning to attend an ATMIA industry event in the coming months. These conferences will offer attendees the opportunity to reset and discuss new initiatives as we all make a full recovery from COVID-19. It is crucial that as an industry we continue to work together and promote new technology, particularly through ATMIA's NextGen ATM Project, and together we can look forward with confidence towards the future.
There is no doubt certainty within this industry will return and the future of the industry will become clearer in the coming months. ATMIA will continue to lead the way and to show support to our members through our educational, advocacy services, connections, and industry visibility to ensure the future of this industry.
Thanks,

Cash is not just a dirty word
Amid the current furor about whether cash is safe to use, it’s timely to reflect that currency not only serves as a ready means of payment but also a store of wealth. In a rush by some to abandon cash – or see its use side-lined – it is also important to consider than for many people around the world, cash is also often their only readily available means of payment.
Cash is unique as it is both a way to pay and a store of value. This explains the contradiction between continued growth in currency in circulation yet in many countries a decline in its transactional use. It is worth remembering that cash in its various physical forms – banknotes and coin of varying denominations - satisfy different public needs.
