The process will continue in the coming months. Partners For Kids has created a toolkit to assist your practice in educating your patients about Medicaid redetermination. Partners For Kids Helps Managed Medicaid Payors Align Synagis Administration With RSV Rates
Partners For Kids pharmacists noticed shifts in RSV season in 2021. As a result, they began tracking RSV rates in the community and created a working group to communicate with the Ohio Department of Medicaid and the managed care plans about the need to begin authorizing this seasonal medication. The working group also coordinated efforts within Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Homecare to prepare for administering the medication. Check out a feature on this project.

Albuterol Shortage
Your local pharmacies may be experiencing a shortage of albuterol inhalation solution for nebulization due to supply chain issues. Albuterol inhalers are an available alternative and have been shown to be just as effective as nebulized treatments, if administered correctly. Pediatric patients should be prescribed a spacer for administration of an albuterol MDI inhaler and receive education on proper administration technique.
If a patient is using albuterol frequently, their asthma may not be under good control and the patient may benefit from initiation of a controller inhaler or a step up in therapy. A comprehensive guideline for the management of asthma is available on the Partners For Kids website. The guideline includes patient education material that may be useful for inhaler technique education. For any questions about PFK prescribing guidelines, please contact PFKpharmacy@childrensdayton.org.
