The Huckabee College of Architecture held its annual Scholarship Convocation Ceremony on April 20th, 2023. The event was held in the Hall of Nations at the International Cultural Center of Texas Tech University. Chris Huckabee joined the college as the keynote speaker for the event where over 50 students received upwards of $150,000 worth of scholarships for the coming semester.

Huckabee College of Architecture's Upsilon Chapter of Tau Sigma Delta held its 2023 New Member Induction and Silver Medalist Ceremony on April 17th. Tau Sigma Delta inducted 20 new members and also presented class of 2005 alumnus, Matt Garcia, with the Silver Medalist Award. Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society for Architecture and the Allied Arts is the only national honor society for architecture and design majors comprised of students and design professionals who contribute to the scholarship, mental achievement, and excellence in areas of architecture, architectural engineering, landscape architecture, and interior design. Professor Joe Aranha was awarded the Global Vision Award of Lifetime Achievement by the Office of International Affairs. This award recognizes an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the internationalization of Texas Tech through his or her many years of leadership in promoting international scholarship and teaching. Professor Aranha was honored at the Global Vision Awards ceremony on April 27th, 2023.

Professor Joe Aranha has received a Fulbright Specialist award for an assignment at Warmadewa University in Bali, Indonesia, from July 24th, through August 31st, 2023. The Fulbright Specialist Program “pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions.” This is Professor Aranha’s third Fulbright Specialist award in addition to two Fulbright Scholar awards.

Matt Garcia, of Matt Garcia Design, and alumnus of the Huckabee College of Architecture's class of 2005, was named the recipient of the Upsilon Chapter of Tau Sigma Delta's Silver Medalist Award at their new member induction ceremony on April 17th, 2023. Garcia also delivered a lecture following the new member induction ceremony.

The American Institute of Architects California has named Steinberg Hart as the winner of its coveted 2023 Firm Award, the highest honor the organization can bestow on an architecture firm. President and CEO of Steinberg Hart, David Hart, is an alumnus of the Huckabee College of Architecture class of 1992, and currently serves as Vice President of the HCOA's Design Leadership Alliance.
"As the firm celebrates its 70th year in practice, the AIA California Firm Award recognizes Steinberg Hart’s history of producing distinguished architecture, contributions to communities, advancements in sustainable design, and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion."

| In Memory of Ray Charles Garrison - Class of 1964
Ray Charles Garrison passed away on Monday, March 20th, 2023, at the age of 82 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughter, Jennifer Patrick; son-in-law, Todd Patrick; daughter, Heather Garrison; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Garrison; grandchildren, Grant Patrick (wife, Mackenzie); Hayden Patrick; Chase Patrick; Beckett Garrison; Burklee Garrison; brother, Chip Garrison (wife Phyllis); and brother-in-law, John Burke.
After graduation from Texas Tech, Ray and Ellen lived in Phoenix, Arizona, and Amarillo, Texas, before settling in Irving, Texas, where they raised their two daughters. Ray practiced architecture with a few firms before joining and eventually becoming a partner with WSI Architects. Ray helped build many commercial office buildings, apartments, churches, and warehouses around the Dallas area and all over the United States and the world during his career.

Texas Tech will host commencement ceremonies for spring 2023 graduates at the United Supermarkets Arena starting with the graduate ceremony on May 12th, 2023, at 6:30 PM CDT, and the undergraduate ceremony on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at 9:00 AM CDT.
