Data Shows Devastating Impact of COVID Pandemic on Preschoolers |
As educational leaders, we know you are a daily witness to the devastating effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the social emotional and academic learning of our students. In recent data collected by ECEAP programs nation-wide, the magnitude of these effects on our earliest learners shows a 17 point drop from data collected in 2019.
2022 screening data indicates that only 62% of ECEAP's children were found to be developmentally at age-level upon entering ECEAP programs. This data also suggests that significant areas of concern were fewer children who were potty-trained upon entry, a lack of social emotional skills to operate in group settings and children who have not yet experienced cooperative play and communication with other children.

OpenSciEd courses are designed to help students engage in robust science lessons both in and outside the classroom. Beginning in the fall of 2021, WA state teachers and students field-tested these units, which are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, and helped provide valuable feedback. These revised units are now available to the public as an Open Educational Resource!
Educational leaders are encouraged to share these units with high school teachers looking for new science materials for their classrooms.

ROBOTICS PROGRAMS STARTING AS EARLY AS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! |
This weekend more than 20 First® Washington teams from across Oregon and Washington met at the Yakima SunDome for their ChargedUp competition. Two ESD 105 districts participated in this month's event: Mabton & Wapato. Wapato's Robotics & Engineering Club has been working on Robot #2926 since this year's challenge was presented in January. They advanced to the ChargedUp playoffs where they competed with other schools as part of the Blue Alliance. Wapato High School has been participating in this program for more than 15 years, working with community sponsors and partners to gather resources and materials for their robots. Go Wolves!
First® Washington offers hands-on learning experiences that inspire our learners about STEM in several developmentally appropriate programs ranging from elementary to high school.
