Time management tips for online learners

When you’re trying to balance work, school, and a personal life, time is a precious commodity. Every semester, hundreds of students find a way to strike this balance. Here are some tips on how to manage your time effectively during the semester ahead.

Meeting a soldier's needs in the field and the virtual classroom

Food, fuel, and parts—as a Tank Platoon Leader, Michael Smith must manage these supplies for the First Infantry Division stationed at U.S. Army base Fort Riley, near Manhattan, Kansas. While it may seem like a straightforward list, Smith knows there are a thousand little things to consider when dealing with heavy machinery and the people who operate it.
“There is the customer relationship management aspect, and all the maintenance—with a tank, for instance, you’re looking at about a half a gallon to the mile, and you’re refueling every 250 miles,” Smith said. “I need to be able to forecast what we’re going to need and when we’re going to need it for our mission or training to be successful.” Read more

Annual advising survey coming October 16

Each year, we like to ask our students about their advisors and their advising experiences—and this year is no different. In addition to a National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) research project, our annual survey allows us to hear from all of our students regarding their experiences with their advisor. We know that the advisor plays an instrumental role in how students can achieve their goals, and your input can help us continuously improve. Read more

Graduation will soon be upon us, and we’re excited to celebrate your accomplishments with you. However, there are steps you will need to complete early in your final semester to ensure you are ready to graduate.

All students are asked to complete the annual advising survey to help guide improvements for our team. The survey will be sent in mid-October. 
Important dates for full semester online courses
October 2 – Last day to drop a course and receive 50 percent of refundable tuition only. A notation of "W" will be recorded on academic transcript and drop fee is $45 per course.
October 10 – Deadline to submit Intent to Graduate forms and other commencement ceremony materials.
October 16 – Advising surveys will be sent to students at their uwplatt.edu email accounts.
October 30 – Last day to drop an online course; no refund available. A notation of "W" will be recorded on academic transcript and drop fee is $45 per course.
October 31 – Last day to submit feedback through the annual advising survey.
