Elysian Charter School Weekly Newsletter
A Positively Different Public School

November 19, 2018                  Vol. 14  Issue 10
The school newsletter is sent out on Mondays. When there is a holiday, the newsletter is sent the following day.

Please note:  Send news to deb.rosner@ecsnj.org by 9:00 AM on Mondays.
Sixty plus pounds of food was dropped off at the homeless shelter in Hoboken. This is an effort to be proud of. Jaclyn at the shelter said “Wowza! What a generous bounty!! Please extend our sincerest gratitude to all of your students, their families, and the faculty!!”Thank you to the MS school climate team members for your leadership and Tara and Alicia for helping organize. Thank you to Alicia for schlepping the donations to the shelter!
It’s always important to remember that we must teach our children that it is our obligation to give back, to remember that there are people who need our help.
My two cents:
The coin drive was another whopping success! I’m proud of the all - out effort by every class and the competitive spirit between the grades. Congrats to grade 8 – you rule!  I did hear about one sibling fist fight over some coins and sisters who stayed up way too late scouring the house for change. It was all for a good cause. Thank you to our fearless PTSO President Sara who collected the coins (which are pretty heavy) and brought them to the bank to be counted.
Below are links to two worthwhile articles to read about social media. I hope you take time to read them and share your thoughts. I hope to hear from you.
I wish everyone at Elysian a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends!

Emergency Call System Test

Dear Parents and Families,

On Tuesday, November 20 at about 8:00 p.m. we will be testing our emergency call system.  A test message will be sent out to the home and cell numbers that we have on your child’s records.  Once the test is finished, you can complete the form below in order to add or change any of the numbers.  If you are satisfied with the call you do not need to do anything.  You may also call the office with any change information.

Please note that we will set each emergency call so that it can recognize an answering machine and leave messages.  This means that there will be a momentary delay when you pick up the phone.  Also, the caller ID will show the Elysian phone number.

How do I know when Elysian closes?

--Elysian will usually be closed for emergency conditions when the Hoboken Board of Education is closed.

--An e-mail blast will be sent to the entire community.

--An announcement will be placed on the school’s website (www.ecsnj.org)

--A phone call will be made to the entire community.  The call will be made as soon as a decision is made about the closing of school.  This may be very early in the morning.

The PTSO would like to extend a huge THANKS to all of the students, parents, teachers and staff who so generously contributed to the Coin Challenge, and to BCB Community Bank for counting it all for us daily!

IT'S NOT TOO LATE FOR PTSO DUES - Enjoy the Halloween Party? Did you know that your dues go toward funding the free Halloween Party, as well as the many free or low-cost events that the PTSO puts on every year? PTSO dues envelopes have been sent home, but if you did not receive one, please email elysianptso@gmail.com or send in your donation in a regular envelope, with your contact information on the outside. To help fund the PTSO, we are suggesting all families contribute $25 per child in dues. Please return the envelope with cash or check made out to Elysian PTSO to the main office. PayPal is still not accepting payments, so at this time we are suggesting sending your donation in an envelope to the office. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

On Tuesday, November 27, in celebration of #GivingTuesday, Facebook and PayPal are matching donations up to a total of $7 million! As part of the current Friends of Elysian matching appeal, please consider making a donation on this day via our Facebook page.
