A friend reminded me of the challenges Houston has faced since we met, including Hurricane Harvey, Covid, and a cold week with no power or water. I got the impression he may think I have brought him bad luck!
God does not always take us on the easiest path. There was a much shorter way to the promised land than the route on which the Lord guided Israel. At a glance we might think Moses needed a map or Siri. But God took them straight to the Red Sea to increase their dependence on him and show his great power.
"Through many dangers, toils and snares we have already come!” What has God taught us through the difficulties we have faced and overcome by his power?
Life is often hard. But God is good, all the time. We have seen God’s generosity this week in the warmth of a fire, a cup of coffee, and the face of a beautiful baby who has been a trooper.
If we find ourselves between a Rock and a hard place, a cold house and no water, or even water everywhere it is not supposed to be, remember the God who parted the Red Sea. He is still with us, as real as a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire.
God has not forgotten us. Let us not forget him. God will never leave us. Let us not leave him when life is hard. God is the only one who can get us through these hard times. As a friend loves to preach, “Won’t he do it!”
