Exodus 14:19-22
Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.  Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.

A friend reminded me of the challenges Houston has faced since we met, including Hurricane Harvey, Covid, and a cold week with no power or water.  I got the impression he may think I have brought him bad luck!

God does not always take us on the easiest path.  There was a much shorter way to the promised land than the route on which the Lord guided Israel.   At a glance we might think Moses needed a map or Siri.  But God took them straight to the Red Sea to increase their dependence on him and show his great power.

"Through many dangers, toils and snares we have already come!”  What has God taught us through the difficulties we have faced and overcome by his power?

Life is often hard.  But God is good, all the time.   We have seen God’s generosity this week in the warmth of a fire, a cup of coffee, and the face of a beautiful baby who has been a trooper.

If we find ourselves between a Rock and a hard place, a cold house and no water, or even water everywhere it is not supposed to be, remember the God who parted the Red Sea.  He is still with us, as real as a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire.

God has not forgotten us.  Let us not forget him.  God will never leave us.  Let us not leave him when life is hard.  God is the only one who can get us through these hard times.  As a friend loves to preach, “Won’t he do it!”
Pray with me:
Father, thank you for your goodness that is running after us and going before us.  Lead us today, even on the hard path.  We will follow so long as you are guiding us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
Scripture memorization for this week:
John 1:29
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Hebrews 9:22
In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Our 2021 Every Day with Jesus readings will follow the Foundations Bible reading plan.  Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
We would love for you to join us as we read through the Bible in one year, while still having the flexibility of reading 5 days per week.  In addition, I will continue my long-standing practice of reading one Psalm a day through the year.  We will also memorize 2 scriptures each week.  As we journal together this year,  Robby Gallaty’s H.E.A.R. plan is a good resource: Highlight a verse that stands out to you, Explain what it means, Apply that truth to your life and Respond to what you’ve read with an action or prayer.
Joyfully,
Duane
