New Prison-Dog Program
We recently began another prison-dog program in Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, where there are 8 dogs being educated by inmate handlers. Each dog has two handlers that are able to offer more time and consistency in teaching than would otherwise be possible.
There are now 3 state prisons we're partnered with on this mission, (the other two prisons are located in San Luis Obispo and Soledad). It’s exciting to continue to reach more people and have a positive impact on the incarcerated men, prison staff, and overall prison culture.
The men in the program and staff are incredibly protective of the dogs, as they want to ensure they are able to continue their rehabilitation with this program. Inmate handlers drastically reduce costs and allow us to place more dogs, ultimately saving more lives.
