From the Camp Director,

Greetings from the camp. It feels like things are getting back to normal here at Hanging Rock. We have been busy with retreats every weekend through April and we are about booked for the rest of the year as well. It is so good to have groups here again spending time strengthening their relationship with Christ.
We are very sad to have lost one of our volunteers this month. Terry Evans served Hanging Rock from March 2009 - June 2018 as one of our Board of Directors and also lead and built our horse camp program to what it is today. Our prayers go out to Terry's family. We have started getting memorals for Terry and we are planning to do something special with those funds in honor of Terry.  We wil be announcing what this is very soon. If you would like to make a memorial donation in Terry's honor you can give online or just send a check to the camp. Make sure you let us know it is for Terry Evans.
Don't forget our Annual Meeting is June 6th at 2:00 p.m. EST. We will be casting the vision for the Great is Thy Faithfulness Campaign. I'm very excited about what we are going to be doing to help Hanging Rock minister to more people as they come to camp.
We ask that you keep Hanging Rock in your prayers as we begin this summer camp season. We still need volunteers, so if you can help please reach out to us. Registration is moving slower than we were hoping for, so make sure you are getting kids excited about camp at your church.

Summer Camp 2021

We are very excited that we will not have any restrictions placed on Summer Camp this year. We have spoken with our local and state health directors and they have lifted restrictions for us. So, kids will not need to wear masks this summer and we are not spacing kids out in the dorms. Registration will look like it always has. We hope this is welcome news to our parents.
We do have some camps that are filling up or are full so make sure you get your kids signed up for the camp they want to come to.

  • Jr. High Paintball - 10 spots available

2021 Mission Partner

We are excited to partner with Northwest Haiti Christian Mission this summer.
RESCUE. RESTORE. REDEEM. RESONATE. Our mission at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission is to passionately pursue Christ, as His followers, by aiding the people of Haiti in their passionate pursuit of Christ and facilitating others to engage with NWHCM in our efforts.
Our offerings will go toward helping Northwest Haiti Christian Mission in this endeavor:  Babies bring so much hope and promise to the world. Here at NWHCM, babies are an important reason we do what we do. Last month, over 60 babies were born in our Birthing Center. Only 36% of all births in Haiti occur in healthcare facilities, however only one-fourth of those births are even attended by a skilled healthcare professional.

Most rural areas have no access to health care at all causing many mothers to walk miles to reach a facility that sometimes is poorly staffed and ill-supplied. That's why NWHCM started the Birthing Center Program over 21 years ago to ensure mothers all over the rural Northwest Zone of Haiti have a safe and clean place to give birth to their babies.
New this year, campers in Jr. High & High school will be able to do a short-term mission experience with the team at Northwest Haiti.
Sam, the Executive Director, will be leading this mission experience to help young people understand the importance of serving. Students will spend 3 days together serving in the Indianapolis area. They will begin by staying at the camp the first night then traveling to Indianapolis where Northwest Haiti has it's office and warehouse. Campers will be staying there for one night and serving along side Sam to help missions in the Indianapolis area. This will be limited to the first 14 students.

Thank You!

Thank you to the John Riner family for donating a second Dixie Chopper. What a BLESSING! Thanks to Jason Schimke for letting us borrow the trailer.
This means we have plenty of mowers for volunteers. We have a lot of grass that needs cut everyday if you would like to drive one of our Dixie Choppers we would love the help. Email Ben if you can help: benhannum@hangingrock.org

Thank You!

Thank you to Young's Chapel Christian Church for their generous donation that bought a warming cabinet for the kitchen! We have been on the hunt for one of these for years, and through their support, we finally got one! This is going to make pizza day so much easier! It will also help with banquets, and cooking for larger groups!
If you would like to volunteer to help with meals this summer, let Todd know: toddblair@hangingrock.org

From the Associate Director,

A huge thank you goes out to all of you! You have blessed the camp with cereal, on top of cereal, on top of cereal! We have received well over 300 boxes of cereal and I know there is more to come in. So, THANK YOU so much for your partnership with us in this endeavor to stock the pantry with cereal! When we decided not to have Celebrate Good Times again this year, the first thing I thought is, where are we going to get cereal for this summer? Then I thought I would put a plea out to our churches and ask for cereal donations. We have historically had a few churches that really push cereal donations, but the bulk of our donations comes from Celebrate Good Times. I was a little nervous that we would have to scrounge this year and figure ways to purchase cereal in bulk. Then slowly cereal was being dropped off at the camp. 10-15 boxes at a time, the donations came in. Then, 30+ boxes. Then 51 boxes. Then around 100 boxes! I know there is one church that is sitting on 90 boxes, as I write this article and will definitely have over 100 by the end of the week! I am blown away at your support and dedication to helping the ministry of Hanging Rock. When you think about it, a $3 box of cereal doesn't seem like much, but when you think of 300-500 boxes of cereal, that is a huge cost savings you have provided the camp! Now to go organize and put away all of the cereal we have on hand. Thank You again for your support!
If you were not able to donate cereal, don't worry we have more needs: We haven't been able to have our Ladies Spring Bring event the last 2 years and we have felt the effects of it. Here is how you can help. We need paper towels, blue Dawn dish soap, laundry soap, gallon zip-loc bags, Mr. Clean magic erasers, air fresheners, kitchen towels and dish rags. If you can help donate these items, we would greatly appreciate it. Set up a collection area at your church and help promote the need. All of you rocked it with the cereal drive, now let's pack out the kitchen with cleaning supplies!

Remembering Terry Evans

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Terry Evans. Terry lost his life in an unfortunate accident on the Wabash River while fishing. Terry made a huge impact here at Hanging Rock with our Horse Camp Program. We know with the faith that Terry had, he is with His Heavenly Father. Well Done Good and Faithful Servant. "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Matthew 25:23
We have a memoral fund set up to do something special at Horse Camp in memory of Terry. We will be making that announce that very soon.
