ILR is in full swing

Chilly mornings, sunny afternoons, the crunch of leaves underfoot, and the gathering, learning, and laughter with friendsold and new. In the ILR classroom, on the bus, and across town (and country), the signs of ILR are all around us, and it’s such a welcome sight.

After 25 years, we've learned a thing or two about your dedication and resilience, which made our commitment to tackling new avenues of delivering ILR's programming our highest priority. Due to your encouragement and willingness to rise to the challenge and grow with us, our collective efforts made great things possible. That temporary shift in focus required the ILR Annual Report to be pushed to the proverbial back burner where it simmered for the past couple of years. Reworked into the ILR 2020-2022 Biennial Report, it offers a first-ever recap of the prior two years.

In the ILR 2020-2022 Biennial Report, you can explore the following:
  • ILR Chair Comments
  • Curriculum
  • Special Events
  • Finances
  • Challenges
  • Special Thanks and Recognition

Teach for ILR

Are you sitting in class wondering how you can share your own expertise? Jump in! We're actively planning the curriculum for our spring 2023 semester, March 27 thru April 28.

Whether the passion for your subject matter stems from your career, hobby, or life experiences, you'll find an audience that's eager, interested, and hopeful you'll consider proposing a course for us. To get started, complete our course proposal form, which can always be found on our website under the "Teach" header.

We're looking for new, refreshed, and/or perennial favorites in literature/writing, science/nature/horticulture, technology/photography, art/theater/music, current events/politics, health/nutrition/sports, geography/history, philosophy/religion, or whatever else happens to be your passion or is on your mind.

Ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations? Propose a class at the link above or email us at
ilr@MiamiOH.edu. The proposal deadline for the spring semester is November 21.

We're being blocked

An unusual volume of emails sent from ILR and your instructors are bouncing back, blocked by email providers who are identifying it as spam (digital junk mail and unsolicited communications sent in bulk through an electronic messaging system).
To ensure you're not missing important ILR notifications, please add the following to your email Contacts list: ILR@MiamiOH.edu and MackeJC@MiamiOH.edu. While you're at it, consider adding your instructors, whose email addresses can be found on your student schedule.
Side Dishes

You're invited

The Miami University Symphony Orchestra will be giving a special concert featuring the music they will present at the OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) Conference. The Miami Orchestra was selected by blind audition tape for the conference and will be featured for the first time in more than a decade.
The concert is free and will happen on Saturday, October 15 at 7:30 pm in Hall Auditorium, Oxford. The ILR membership is invited to this concert, which will feature Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, Mozart’s The Abduction from Seraglio Overture (and other beautiful and special music), the Pavane by Ravel, and the Song of the Black Swan by Villa-Lobos. The latter is a very special performance because the orchestration was done by André Kostelanetz, who might be familiar to several members of ILR. This music was lost and discovered recently by Professor Tom Garcia.
Xavier Research Study

Earn a quick ten bucks

You are invited to participate in a research study by Xavier University's Alli Duncan, a student in the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. The purpose of this study is to investigate help-seeking behaviors and recommendations in the older adult population. Participants in this study complete an online Help-Seeking Survey (10 minutes). The information you provide will contribute to our understanding of help-seeking behaviors and recommendations in the older adult population.
The study is anonymous, but participants wishing to receive the electronic Kroger gift card will be asked to provide their name and email address.
