Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service |
|
|
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is often viewed as a day off from school or work, as many businesses and institutions throughout the country close for the federal holiday. Not only was it a day to honor the legacy Dr. King left on the world, but it was a Day of Service for Walsh University with more than 500 students volunteering at 13 sites throughout northeast Ohio, something that speaks volumes about the character of a Walsh University Cavalier!

MLK Essay Winners Announced! |
As part of MLK Day and Human Dignity Week, students were also presented with an opportunity to participate in an essay contest. We had a record number of submissions this year, 40 compared to an average of 15 in recent years. Also, in the past, the student who was awarded 1st place received a $500 non-renewable scholarship. With the help of the Office of Philanthropy, Walsh received funding from an anonymous donor and was able to increase 1st place to $1,000 and provide for the first time, non-renewable scholarships for $500 to both the 2nd and 3rd place winners. We thank those who took time to reflect on their own experiences for the 2024 MLK Essay Contest and congratulate the winners!
1st Place: Aiden Satterfield
2nd Place: Nathan Sabo
3rd Place: Alisha Khatri

With the snow and single digit temperatures this week, we want to remind you about the University’s Emergency Closing Policy. Please read the following information carefully and be safe on the roads this season! It is important to remember that the University only moves to remote operations or closes for extreme conditions and circumstances. Walsh University usually remains open when area high schools and elementary schools close, as our population is comprised of adults, with a substantial portion residing on campus. However, during extreme conditions due to severe weather, major utility failure or other reasons, the University may move to remote operations, or close all or parts of the campus. Every attempt will be made to announce the decision by 5 a.m. for day classes and events and 3 p.m. for evening classes and events. Information will be provided through the WU (Walsh University) Alert notification system and the University website.
