| The Swartz Center Celebrates Black Entrepreneurs
During Black History Month
The CMU Swartz Center joins Carnegie Mellon University in celebrating Black History Month by acknowledging black student and alumni entrepreneurs who are blazing the trail. These entrepreneurs will be featured for the remainder of February.

| Gus Jenkins is a CMU Electrical & Computer Engineering and Engineering & Technology Innovation Management graduate, a James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellow and has a strong passion for creating and commercializing new technologies and products. Gus is the founder of Mental.ly and is currently a software engineer at ShipBob, Inc., a tech-enabled 3PL that fulfills ecommerce orders for direct-to-consumer brands. ShipBob is a Y Combinator company that recently raised $68M. Gus is also a member of the Future Technical Founders program with CMU's Tech and Entrepreneurship.

VC's from a16z, Gradient Ventures and Pear VC are holding a 'Pitch Night' event for CMU students and alumni. This is an opportunity to practice your pitch and receive live feedback from top VCs, or just register to watch the event. Pitches will be three minutes, without slides.
Applications are also open for Pear Competition and Pear Accelerator--the exclusive program for 15 startups to receive focused attention from six Pear partners and on average raise $2.5M at demo day.

Virtual Startup Job Fair

In partnership with Handshake, CMU and Pitt are hosting a virtual 2021 Startup Job Fair on Thursday, March 11, 2021.
Past years have proven the Startup Job Fair to be a success, and this new format will provide even more reach for startups to attract top talent. Startups will have the opportunity to build their team and university students will have a chance to work in an exciting startup environment. If you have not participated in a virtual job fair, you will be given instructions and personal assistance if needed.
Eligibility and how to apply
This NO-FEE Job Fair is for startup companies up to five years old that are looking for paid positions: interns, part-time, or full-time employees. Space for virtual ‘booths’ is limited. Startups interested in participating should send the following to Erin O’Toole (erino@cmu.edu) by Friday, February 12.
Please include in your response:
- Company name
- Key contact person and contact info
- Year company was founded
For each position you are seeking:
• Type (FT, PT, intern)
• Position description: ( e.g. full-stack developer, marketing, business, etc.)

| CMU Startup Tabs.do! Seeks Beta Users
If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the number of tabs you have open on your computer, you're not alone. Whether it’s the thought of which tabs to close, finding the exact tab in the sea of open tabs or keeping a tab open in hopes of finally having time to get back to it, tab management is stressful. To help solve this problem, a research team from Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science has just finished a year-long study to determine why tab managers fail. The team is looking for beta users for their proposed solution called Tabs.do!. Based on early results, this tool has helped users reduce their open tabs without losing any of the benefits of their work.
