NW Noggin Invited to Present in Washington, D.C. 
Five Portland State students will travel with the neuroscience outreach group NW Noggin, led by Psychology Instructor Bill Greisar, to Washington, D.C. to give a “Brains + Art” briefing to the Neuroscience and the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics (STEAM) caucuses in the US House of Representatives on April 27. They will also present to the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee in the U.S. Senate.
NW Noggin brings together undergraduate and graduate student volunteers from across PSU and other area institutions to inform and excite K-12 students, and the community, about neuroscience.

Scholarship Created in Memory of Prof. Roslyn Farrington Awards First Student Recipient
Jean-Luc, who moved to Portland from West Africa more than a decade ago, is the first recipient of the Roslyn Farrington Scholarship. Roslyn was a Portland State professor who taught in the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department from 2002 until she passed away in September 2014 at the age of 50.
Faculty Invited to Become ISS Fellows, Apply for Grants Program
The PSU Institute for Sustainable Solutions re-launched its Faculty Fellows program and invites faculty from across the University to apply. Faculty may also apply for a new grant program aimed at advancing research and academics on the theme of cities and sustainability. Grant proposals are due April 11.

Angela Canton, Black Studies, received the Annie C. Singleton Award from the Rho Beta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  
Tony Wolk, English, was honored with PSU's first 50-year Length of Service award. 
Alan Yeakley, Environmental Science & Management, discussed how parks contribute to the environmental health of our city on the Portland Parks Foundation blog.
Andres Holt, Geography, presented "Wildfire regime shifts in southern temperate forest ecosystems: climate change, anthropogenic influences, and ecological feedbacks" at VIII Southern Connection Congress 2016 in Punta Arenas, Chile.
Eva Thanheiser, Math, published a paper, "Inviting Prospective Teachers to Publicly Share their Rough Draft Mathematical Thinking" in Mathematics Teacher Educator 4(2).
Tina Burdsall, Sociology, was appointed Interim Secretary for the Pacific Sociological Society.
Daniel Jaffee, Sociology, was elected to the board of directors of the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society (AFHVS), an interdisciplinary professional association that publishes the journal Agriculture and Human Values.

This presentation will focus on the components of social communication and their importance in everyday interactions, as well as research investigating the efficacy of intervention to support the social communication skills of young children with autism spectrum disorders and their families.
