We are having another record breaking summer season. We are on track to have over 2,600 this summer for 12 weeks of camp. So far, we have had 29 baptisms as camp and a lot going to their home church to be baptized. We have a great team that have been taking a lot of pictures if you follow us on our Facebook page. Also, you can download your camper's group picture from our website. Keep us in your prayers as we welcome all of the camps in July.

From the Camp Director,

We are having so much fun this summer with so many attending camp. I was telling someone the other day, that in 2008 my first summer here we had 900 campers fast forward to this summer where we will have over 2,600. Everything is being stretched. Our facilities, our staff, our event coordinators and faculty. Food service looks different, our waste treatment plant is being taxed, parking is a challenge and so many other things are having to be adjusted to make room. Just think about how many people are coming and the changes that have to be made to accommodate the growth.

These are all good problems to have and we are navigating how to continue to have quality camps with larger quantities. I'm excited to start on a 3-5 year master plan in September that will address these concerns. We have invited Randy Pim the Executive Director at Camp Allendale to lead the board, camp committee and staff through this process. Randy has been at Camp Allendale since 2007 and has over 40 years in Christian Ministry. He will be retiring in October from Camp Allendale of this year and will consult for us to help us navigate our growth.

I personally want to say thank you for your constant support and encouragement. We are excited to take on the challenges of the growth of Hanging Rock. We cannot do this ministry without your support. .

Dining Hall Update

What a great start to raising money for the dining hall addition. We have raised $121,000 so far and have had some huge blessings come our way. We have been in contacted by a camp family that has a concrete business they have offered to do all of the concrete for the dining hall addition. Plus, we have another camp family willing to help with the site work. This is HUGE.

Below are a few pictures of how crowded it is in our current space. We have had to set up multiple serving lines to take care of 220 HS Students.

Minister's Wives Retreat/Minister's brunch:

We want to minister to our Ministers here at Hanging Rock We are holding two events on the same day to minister to the Ministers and their wives. We are so excited to have Drew & Judy Mentzer come and lead these sessions. Registration is free for both events. But, we do need you to register.

Drew attended Johnson from 1964 to 1968.

While at Johnson, Drew met Judy Morgan, daughter of Russell and Jean Morgan and they were married in August 1967 at the Woodlawn Christian Church in Knoxville.

Judy graduated from Johnson in 1967

During Drew’s senior year at Johnson, Drew and Judy began a part-time preaching ministry in Roanoke, Virginia at the Piney Grove Christian Church. In May 1968 Drew and Judy went full time with that congregation and stayed until September 1977. During their ministry the church relocated and changed its name to the Penn Forest Christian Church

The Mentzer's began their ministry with the Farragut Christian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee in September 1977 and ministered there until 1997.

In March of 1997 the Mentzer's moved to Danville, Illinois where they served the Second Church of Christ for twenty two years. Drew’s responsibilities included preaching, teaching, leadership, taking care of people and casting vision.

In all three churches Judy taught children’s Sunday School classes, led children’s church and VBS, led choirs. While at Second, Judy led Women's Ministries which included a morning Bible study, Widows ministry, Christian book club, Card and prayer ministry, Welcome Home (a ministry for new mothers), and New Beginnings (a bride's ministry).

Drew and Judy retired from Second Church of Christ in November 2019 and moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee to be near their family. Drew and Judy have two children. Their son Doug and his wife Sarah live in West Knoxville and have two children, Jack and Jake, their daughter Deedra, who graduated with a special education diploma in 1995 from Tennessee School for the Blind in Nashville, Tennessee, lives in Oak Ridge with them.

While Drew and Judy retired from Second Church of Christ they have not retired from Kingdom work. They served an interim ministry with the First Christian Church of Morristown, Tennessee from February 2020 until January 2021. They are presently serving an interim ministry with English Mountain Christian Church in Newport, TN

Drew is a member of the Board of Trustees of Johnson University and also serves on the board of Abilities Ministries. Drew is also a volunteer chaplain with the Oak Ridge Police Department.

When not preaching someplace the Mentzer's attend the Woodlawn Christian Church in Knoxville.
