Get Ready for Mental Health Awareness Month!
|
As we gear up for Mental Health Awareness Month in May, it’s important to start preparing for how we can spread awareness and create meaningful conversations around mental health. Mental health is an essential part of our overall well-being, and by supporting each other, we can reduce stigma, promote mental wellness, and build a more supportive community.
If you’re looking for ideas to promote mental health awareness in May, Mental Health America (MHA) has released a 2025 Planning Guide that includes outreach ideas, communication templates, activity examples, and partnership opportunities.

Resources for
Mental Health Support:
|
Simple Practices for
Mental Well-Being:
|
-
Mindfulness: Take a moment each day to practice mindfulness—whether through deep breathing exercises, meditation, or simply being present in the moment.
- Exercise: Regular physical activity can improve mood and reduce anxiety. Even a short walk each day can make a difference.
- Stay Connected: Reaching out to friends, family, or coworkers can improve feelings of connectedness and support.
- Self-Care: Take time for activities that nourish your mind and body—whether that's reading, practicing a hobby, or getting enough sleep.

| National Drug Take Back Day - April 26
|
The DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 26, 2025, and the Kennewick Police Department will once again be hosting the event in partnership with the ESD 123 and KEY Connection coalition. The event will be held at the Kennewick Police Department from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. KEY Connection will be distributing free locking medication bags in an effort to keep our community safer and healthier. These bags can prevent misuse, potential addiction and even overdose deaths by keeping the medication out of the wrong hands.
This is a nation-wide effort, so our neighboring communities will also be participating in this effort. There will be three other local take back events from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Tri-City area:
|
-
Walmart on Road 68 (Pasco Prevention Network Coalition in partnership with the Pasco Police Department)
- Kiona-Benton City High School (Coalition for a Healthy Benton City in partnership with the Benton County Sherrif’s Office)
- Prosser Chamber of Commerce (Prosser Thrive Coalition in Partnership with the Prosser Police Department)
