Dear Playhouse Friends,
With a feeling that can only be described as bittersweet, I have to take this time to let you know about a staff transition we’ll be making in the next few months. Our wonderful scenic and lighting designer, Christine Daugherty, has made the decision to move on from her position on the Playhouse staff to focus more time on her family, which now includes beautiful new daughter Isla. We will miss Christine tremendously, but understand and appreciate her desire to devote more attention to the care of her loving family and look forward to seeing her continue as a volunteer in any and all capacity she wishes, onstage and off. We are beginning our search for a Scenic and Lighting Designer and encourage you, our loyal friends, to share the opportunity with anyone you think may be a good fit! Please encourage them to contact me at kate@erieplayhouse.org or Producing Director Richard Davis at richardd@erieplayhouse.org. In other news, I hope you have plans to join us for the first Youtheatre show of the season Miss Nelson Is Missing!, which is a delightful musical based on the popular children’s book series by Harry Allard. I can promise you that director Domenic Del Greco and the kids in the cast have brought their wonderful sense of humor and joy to this fun piece of theatre that can be enjoyed by both children and adults of all ages! I hope you’re all having a fantastic beginning to my favorite season of the year!

Miss Nelson is Missing! The Erie Playhouse is excited to present Miss Nelson is Missing!, a foot-stomping joy of a musical, and the first Youtheatre show of the season. This whimsical musical adaptation of Harry Allard's classic children's book, "Miss Nelson Is Missing!" is perfect for kids of all ages!
Come meet the kids of Room 207 (Jyleek Evans, Myles Bruce, Maddie Penpek, Audrey King), the worst-behaved class in the whole school, and their teacher, Miss Nelson (Mary Grace Kelly), who can't control her crazy classroom because she's just too nice. But when she disappears, her replacement is the hard-as-nails, detention-loving, recess-canceling, substitute teacher Viola Swamp (also Mary Grace Kelly)! With The Big Test approaching, the kids suddenly realize how much they miss Miss Nelson and they'll do anything—including hiring a private eye (Benjamin LaRiccia)—to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back. The talented ensemble is under the direction of Domenic Del Greco. Additional production credits go to Kate Neubert-Lechner as assistant director and choreographer, music direction by Will Steadman, and features colorful sets by Christine Daugherty and costumes by Ryan Ingram. MISS NELSON IS MISSING! OCTOBER 12−14, 19−21.

Our first play of the season, Terms of Endearment will be on the LECOM Stage November 2−18. This funny and touching story captures the delicate, sometimes fractured bonds between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, and lovers, both old and new. Come to laugh, come to cry, come to care, come to terms.

PLAYtime News
Don’t look now, but raccoons were spotted at PLAYtime as the classrooms completed their first month of Imagination Library Stories! "The Kissing Hand" was one of the many stories experienced by over 300 children each week. In our story, all of us became “Chester” the raccoon, who was nervous about beginning a new year! After finding out they all got to keep their mask, one of our little ones exclaimed, “When I go home I am going to pretend raccoon with my mom! And then maybe I will be a superhero later!”

The classroom is not the only place PLAYtime could be seen in September. Friday, September 28th, PLAYtime partnered with the Erie Downtown Development Corporation to host over 400 area school students in the downtown block of 4th and State for its “Flagship Book Event.” PLAYtime was there guiding the students on a “Walkabout” Erie as they enjoyed the sights, sounds, smells, touch, and even a taste of what downtown Erie has to offer! It was great fun had by all! Top: "The Kissing Hand" masks

The Talent
Meet Benjamin LaRiccia—Detective McSmogg in Miss Nelson is Missing! Ben has been performing at the Erie Playhouse since the age of 7. His first show was Around the World in 80 Days in 2008, where he learned the art of the fast change, with 7 different costumes as he travelled over five continents. He's been in dozens of shows over the years, both Youtheatre and Mainstage; his favorite role was Michael Banks in Mary Poppins in 2013. If he had to choose, Harold Hill in The Music Man is his dream role, although he did get to perform as Winthrop in The Music Man at Mercyhurst Prep! When he’s away from the Playhouse, you’ll find him working at Wegmans, performing in Girard High School musicals (where he's a senior), or singing for his band, Fill in the Blank. After graduation he plans to go to college to become an Actuary or Accountant.
