 GRACE HOPPER CONFERENCE 

Held in Anaheim, California on October 27-30, 2026, the Grace Hopper Conference is the largest gathering of its kind designed to help you build real skills, create meaningful connections, and unlock new opportunities in an AI-driven world.

The conference is designed to support and elevate women and non-binary technologists. Applications are only open to senior undergraduate students and upperclassmen Master's students from the Department of Computer Science.

 INTERNATIONAL COLLEGIATE PROGRAMMING CONTEST 

The ICPC is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious algorithmic programming competition for university students worldwide. Often referred to as the "Olympics of coding," the multi-tier competition challenges teams of three students to solve complex, real-world algorithmic problems under a strict five-hour deadline. 

The competition is open to students with 8 or fewer semesters of post-secondary study who are under 24 or began university in 2022 or later.

Saturday, October 3, 2026 - ICPC North America Qualifier - NAQ
Sunday, November 8, 2026 - ICPC North America Northeast Regional - NENA

To participate in the NAQ, students must complete this form before September 18. 

ICPC-NAQ will be used to form teams for the ICPC-NENA. To participate in NENA, students must contact the local coach Tiago Januario at januario@bu.edu.

 INTERESTED IN INTELLIGENT AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS? 

Action Space is a hands-on physical AI hackathon taking place in Boston on October 24–25, bringing together a small group of robotics and AI builders to tackle multi-agent autonomy and Counter-Drone Swarm Systems. There will be more than $1,000 in prizes!

Over the weekend in October, participants will:

• Train autonomous policies in NVIDIA Isaac Lab
• Work with reinforcement learning and multi-agent autonomy
• Deploy their policies onto physical quadrotors

Action Space is looking for students interested in robotics, ML, RL, computer vision, autonomy, or related fields. The event is free and open to everyone.

NEWS

• On August 14th, BU hosted The 3rd New England Mechanistic Interpretability (NEMI) Workshop. Led by students and faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences, the organizing team put together a large event in the George Sherman Union. This year, NEMI received over 100 submissions, and had nearly 300 attendees—a significant growth over previous years. After the main workshop, a social event was hosted at the CDS building. • The Hariri Institute for Computing at Boston University appointed Deepti Ghadiyaram as Co-Director of its Artificial Intelligence Research Initiative (AIR), effective September 2, 2026. The purpose of AIR is to bring AI researchers at BU together through research seminars and other events. Read more.

• The Neobotics Foundation Inc successfully organized the 30th Roboracer Autonomous Racing competition in Boston this past Sunday, co-located with IEEE VTS. The competition brought together 8 teams from around the world. The students racing with a Neobotics' NeoRacer platform were senior high school students and arrived second. • The paper titled "Programmable Data Layouts via On-The-Fly Data Transformation" was accepted to appear at ASPLOS'27, a top-tier conference in architectures. The authors are Cole Strickler (University of Kansas), Manos Athanassoulis (Boston University), Renato Mancuso (Boston University), and Heechul Yun (University of Kansas).

• The paper titled "Devil-in-FPGA: Coherent Trojans in Reconfigurable Heterogeneous Systems" was accepted to appear at IEEE ACSAC'26, an A-ranking conference in cybersecurity. The authors are Cristiano Rodrigues (University of Minho), Shahin Roozkhosh (Boston University), Sandro Pinto (University of Minho), and Renato Mancuso (Boston University).

• The paper titled "Bottleneck-Aware Bandwidth Regulation for Heterogeneous Memory Subsystems" was accepted to appear at IEEE RTSS'26, a top-tier conference in real-time systems. The authors are Ivan Izhbirdeev (Boston University), Weifan Chen (Boston University), Heechul Yun (University of Kansas), and Renato Mancuso (Boston University).
