Ask the Expert: Senior Genetic Counselor, Dana Farengo Clark, Explains BRCA Gene Mutations

Basser Center Genetic Counselor Dana Farengo Clark, MS, LCGC, helps to explain BRCA mutations and the process of genetic testing and counseling with Health Central. She discusses who should consider testing, what the testing process itself is like, common misconceptions, and why testing is important if you think you might be at risk. "Some people are reluctant to get tested because they’re scared about a positive result. But knowing if you have the mutation can help you, and help your family, to feel empowered about making decisions that affect your health, long-term."

Steven: Plenty to Live For


Penn Medicine and Basser Center patient, Steven Merlin, was diagnosed with stage IV BRCA-related pancreatic cancer in 2012. His initial reaction to his diagnosis was surprise. He took stock of the situation and asked himself “What do I have to live for?” There was plenty - and our friends at Let's Win! Pancreatic Cancer recently shared his inspiring story.
