Calibrate yield monitors for corn

Don’t forget to calibrate your yield monitors for corn harvest. Wondering when it’s time to recalibrate? At least once a year for each crop, and if there’s a 4% drop in moisture during harvest, it’s time to recalibrate.

Accurate yield monitor data is key for making informed crop management decisions throughout the year.

Private Pesticide Applicator Certification

Note: Dodge County applicators that have expired or will be expiring, will not receive a letter in the mail as a reminder. Changes can be viewed at this link - Wisconsin Private Pesticide Certfication. The General Farming Manual will only be available at the WI Pesticide Applicator Training Online Store. County Extension offices will not have them for sale. Cost is $40/ea. Order via mail with printed form or online. Self-study, online training, or area in-person trainings (coming soon) will be available.

With winter on the horizon, ensuring that your bags, bunkers, and silos are full to the brim, is a ready solution for easing worries about winter feed supply. But, for some farmers, the solution to winter feeding and storage is out in the field.

In this episode, Will and Michael talk bale grazing with Jason Cavadini who, in addition to being the state grazing specialist with Extension, also grazes beef cattle near Marshfield. They also talk with Lynn Johnson, a farmer and grazing consultant with Northwest Grazing Network. Listen in!

First found in Rock County in 2011, waterhemp's pesky cousin is determined to become the biggest and badest weed known to Wisconsin corn and soy farmers.

USDA Dairy Margin Coverage Program update

UW-Madison Division of Extension will be hosting a virtual meeting featuring Leonard Polzin, Extension Dairy Markets Outreach Specialist. Polzin will cover what a producer needs to know for the 2023 DMC sign-up.

Dairy Situation & Outlook | October 20, 2022

The price of barrel cheddar cheese strengthened to above $2 per pound from mid-September and continuing into October reaching as high as $2.2450. The price of barrel cheese was well above 40- pound cheddar blocks being as much as $02775 per pound higher. From mid-September and into October 40-pound blocks ranged from $1.9675 per pound to just $2.06.

All hay prices quoted are dollars per ton FOB point of origin for alfalfa hay unless otherwise noted. The information presented in this report is compiled from public and private quality tested sales and reports in the Midwest. Reports since 2016 are archived for review. Hay auction data is collected on the first and third week of the month and posted by or before Tuesday. Prices quoted in this report are for “as fed” alfalfa hay.
