Summer internships, fellowships

Complete Tennessee has two paid graduate fellowships available in Nashville for this summer. Complete Tennessee's mission is to advocate "for students and communities by supporting increased postsecondary access and completion." This could be a great opportunity for those interested in education policy specifically, or learning about other types of policy advocacy. The fellowships are for approximately 20 hour per week at $12 an hour - see details and application info:

Summer Courses

The courses available this summer in the MPA and certificate programs are as follows, with CRNs for use in the schedule system in bold (offerings are contingent on enrollment).
Check the 3-semester plan and its handy checksheet of program course requirements for more info!
PA Exec Leadership students should contact Dr. Stanley for course selection information, cohort courses are not listed here.
Keep in mind that summer courses in the five-week or 10-week sessions are still three credits, and must contain the same content as the Fall/Spring 15-week versions. You should plan your schedule accordingly; five-week courses are the most intense, but even 10-weeks are somewhat accelerated relative to the fall/spring versions.

If so, please sign up for PADM 6930 – Qualitative Research Methods (CRN: 50996). The class will be held on Mondays and Thursdays, from 5:30-8:15pm every other week, for the full duration of the 10-week Summer session (June 4 – August 9). This course will enable students to appreciate the complexities and opportunities that arrive with doing credible and rigorous qualitative research. By succeeding in this course, students will: (a) recognize the ways in which qualitative research in public administration is unique and distinct; (b) distinguish qualitative methodological approaches, and appreciate their distinct advantages and limitations; (c) competently discuss what constitutes proper qualitative research design, implementation, reporting, and publication efforts; and (d) demonstrate skills and strategies necessary for generating effective qualitative research.” Course next offered (tentatively) in summer 2020.

RESOURCES AND POLICIES

Below are resources for the MPA and the certificate programs you should be familiar with.  These resources are all available on our website on the relevant degree program page. Note in particular that all graduate students taking classes in the College of Public Service should be aware of the Graduate School policies detailed at the beginning of the Graduate Catalog, which pertain to all TSU graduate students, as well as the relevant parts of the College section of the Catalog.  All students are expected to be familiar with and to adhere to both Graduate School policies and specific departmental requirements for their degree and/or graduate certificate.  A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in all graduate courses taken at Tennessee State University is required for successful completion of graduate certificates or graduate degree programs; individual programs may also have more restrictive policies as detailed in their Catalog  section. We abide by Graduate School policies including those regarding retention, probation, suspension, and time limitations for degrees (see the front matter of the relevant Catalog).  Per Graduate School policy, a given course in our programs may be repeated one time only, and the second grade will replace the first. A student may repeat a maximum of two (2) courses in a given program for the purpose of improving grades.
