Reflection by Dianne M. Traflet, J.D., S.T.D.

“I do believe, help my unbelief!” (Mk. 9:24)

I believe you are the Savior of the World.

When I am discouraged, please give me the grace to confidently cry out to you, “Save us, O Lord!”  (Cf. Psalm 106:47)

I believe you are Truth.

When I experience dishonesty, please give me the grace to confidently cry out to you, “Make clear the path of Truth, O Lord!”

I believe you are the Divine Teacher.

When I am confused, please give me the grace to confidently cry out to you: “Guide and instruct us, O Lord!”

I believe you are the Light of the World.

When I see the world’s darkness, and indeed, the darkness of my own heart, please give me the grace to confidently cry out to you: “Shine your light on us, O Lord!”

I believe you are the Divine Physician.

When I see the wounds of the suffering, and indeed, my own wounds, please give me the grace to cry out to you: “Heal us, O, Lord!”  (Cf. Jer. 17:14)

I believe you are Love.

When I falter in believing in your love, please give me the grace to cry out: “Draw us close to your heart of Love, O Lord!”     Amen.

Dianne M. Traflet, J.D., S.T.D., Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Administration and Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology, earned a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, an M.A. in Catholic Theology and Pastoral Ministry from The Institute of Advanced Studies of Catholic Doctrine, St. John's University, and an S.T.L. and an S.T.D. from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (The Angelicum), Rome. Dr. Traflet is a key leader in the Center for Diaconal Formation, and she gives numerous lectures, retreats, and days of recollection, including some specific to wives of deacons and deacon candidates. She is the author of Edith Stein: A Spiritual Portrait (Pauline Media, 2008).
