"EPA Chief Visits Fuel Cell Park" - Only in Bridgeport
Mayor Bill Finch, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, FuelCell Energy, Inc. and Dominion hosted Gina McCarthy, Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency for a tour of the 15 megawatt Dominion Bridgeport fuel cell park on Tuesday morning to showcase how affordable fuel cell solutions support energy policy, the environment and economic development at local, State and Federal levels.
During her public remarks at the Bridgeport fuel cell park, Administrator McCarthy commented that now is the time to embrace a clean energy future and that innovative solutions such as the Bridgeport fuel cell park reflect the pathway for American energy security and ingenuity.
"I'm excited to have EPA Administrator McCarthy in Bridgeport and that our efforts to become one of the greenest cities in America are being recognized nationally," said Mayor Bill Finch. "We are home to the Bridgeport fuel cell park, which has fueled green job growth and powers up to 15,000 homes at any given time with virtually pollutant free energy."
"Bridgeport, Fairfield U. cite parks as economic engines" - Fairfield County Business Journal
Bridgeport’s Ellsworth Park recently served as the backdrop for the release of a report on the value — in quality of life and hard currency — the city’s green spaces offer.

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and Fairfield University President Jeffrey P. von Arx hosted the event where the findings from a study regarding the economic impact of parks were released.

The university and the city teamed on the project, which is titled “The Valuation of Bridgeport Parks.”

Residential properties within one-tenth of a mile from a park in Bridgeport have, on average, an 8 percent higher property value than residential properties within the next tenth of a mile from a park. Commercial properties show an even greater gain in property value within the first tenth of a mile from a park, showing an 11 percent increase compared with properties in the second tenth of a mile.

The competition is meant to further incentivize Road Works Crews to get started early in preparing to tackle winter weather conditions (Click here for more info: http://bit.ly/1scGdMX).
Bridgeport’s team included: Craig Nadrizny, Jay Sportini, Ron Lupica, Lionel Young, and Julio Negron.
Last week, Bridgeport’s Road Crews participated in snow plow drills to get ready for the competition and the upcoming winter season.

"Bridgeport unveils 'safe streets' campaign for pedestrians" - CT Post

Mayor Bill Finch this week announced the City’s first comprehensive safe streets initiative designed to keep pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists safe.
“There is nothing more important than the safety of our children and families.  We need a community where our kids can safely walk to school and people can bike to work. We all play a role. Our police, our schools and each one of us,” said Mayor Finch.
The initiative has three primary focuses: education, enforcement and investment.
“Traffic woes and pedestrian safety are major concerns in nearly every city across the country, and Bridgeport, Conn. is no different,” said Mayor Finch.
"Finch briefed on hospital, first responder preparedness on Ebola" - Bridgeport News
Mayor Bill Finch spoke with officials from Bridgeport Hospital and St. Vincent’s Medical Center Thursday and was briefed on protocols for treating patients who exhibit Ebola-like symptoms.
“We know that the risk of a widespread outbreak of the Ebola virus in America is very, very low,” said Finch, after Yale-New Haven Hospital reported a person who had recently returned from Liberia was admitted and placed in isolation after experiencing a fever. The individual tested negative. “But it’s critical that if necessary, we’re ready to deal with the worst case scenario. We must be vigilant and prepared. We’re doing just that.”
Finch has been briefed by staff at both hospitals in the city. Both hospitals have instituted training to keep their medical staff safe while still providing the highest level of medical care for any potential patient.
