| The 60-Second Commercial Assignment
We live in an age of social media, and for now, many virtual interactions.
Students in the business communications course are given the opportunity to flex their creative muscles in an assignment that asks them to create a 60-second video “commercial” advertising themselves to recruiters. They must simply record a video answering two questions:
1. What benefits will you provide us should we hire you?
2. In what ways are you different from the other candidates (or, why should we hire you and not your classmate)?
Click here to watch the creativity videos that our students came up with.

Dr. John Lehoczky has been a steadfast pillar of the Carnegie Mellon University and, in 1994, co-founded the MSCF Program as the interdisciplinary collaboration of four colleges. Dr. Lehoczky embodies the core values of what it truly means to be a Tartan and with your help, we will honor his legacy through naming a classroom in the 90,000-square-foot new home to MSCF, TCS Hall.
Your gift of $10,000 or more will further honor Dr. Lehoczky by helping to create and maintain the state-of-the-art space which will provide MSCF students the space to innovate and collaborate.
The classroom will serve as a place for MSCF students to learn and be inspired, making it the perfect way to stamp Dr. Lehoczky’s name on campus. The classroom naming total will be $500,000, which will benefit the MSCF program.
Your gift is payable over a number of years at your discretion; below are a few
suggestions for your consideration.
$10,000 over 4 years
$25,000 over 5 years
$100,000 over 5 years

Sriram Kannan, Marathon Man!
You think you’ve got it rough? Try working full time at Goldman Sachs while working on a degree in CMU’s demanding MSCF program and becoming a father for the first time! This accomplished man who has worked at Goldman Sachs as Senior Vice President, GSAM Fixed Income and at three funds as Chief Risk Officer, appreciates the importance of MSCF's balanced education.
“Communication skills are extremely, extremely important” (note the usage of “extremely” twice, he says). “In my mock interviews with the MSCF students, I advise them to explain things in simple terms to those who are not familiar with technical concepts – and this includes executives! Many people go too deep, they lose executives, and then they’ve lost their audience. I’ve seen this happen too many times!"
What would Sriram say to alums, especially recent alums, who are reading this article? “The work you will do is a marathon, not a sprint. Look to the long term. Take your time.”

The MSCF Class Gift is a long-standing tradition and serves as a way for students to leave a legacy in the MSCF program. Through this class gift, we aim to enhance the first-year students' experience during their study on campus.
The Class of 2022 was the first year to establish a fund called "Discover New York" and "Discover Pittsburgh" to help incoming students experience local activities, such as sports games and entertainment events. Using the funds raised, we hope to provide free or reduced-price tickets to our students so that everyone has an opportunity to explore the city we all love and care about.
Thank you to our class of 2022 representatives, Christophe Saad, Isaac Liu, Rylan Greer, Bryce Earner, Wendy Huang, and Blair Shi, as well as all the students, for taking the time to give back to the program which has supported them throughout their schooling.
If you would also like to donate or sponsor the next class gift, please contact Catalina Wong.

A Merit Fellow Poised for the Future
“The MSCF Merit Fellowship provides financial support for one year to students in the MSCF program with exceptional academic records.” Sabina Lenskaya is one such student.
"MSCF has a goal of creating graduates who are ultimately successful,” Sabina said, “people who give back. That greatly impressed me about the program. It meant to me that they continued to believe in the structure and goals of MSCF.”
Your support of the MSCF Merit Fellowship allows Sabina and other MSCF students to achieve their educational goals, no matter what their financial means may be. Your gift to this fund invests in the future of Carnegie Mellon students and continues our tradition of excellence. The MSCF Merit Fellowship greatly impacts our students and is often the biggest factor in drawing the next generation’s top talent to the program.
