CRIDC 2023 awards $43K in research travel grants

Tech’s 14th annual Career, Research, Innovation, and Development Conference CRIDC) was held February 1. Ninety-nine graduate students participated in the poster competition, presenting their research in front of their peers and faculty and staff judges alike. This year’s CRIDC recognized the outstanding and impactful work of our student competitors and awarded $43,000 worth of research travel grants.

| Black in Astro receives Outreach Award from the Royal Astronomical Society
|
Meet Naia Butler-Craig, an Aerospace Engineering Ph.D. student who serves as the aerospace chair for Black in Astro (BIA), a grassroots organization that supports current and future Black space scientists and engineers through education, outreach, mentoring, and networking. This year, under her co-leadership, BIA received their 2023 Annie Maunder Medal from the Royal Astronomical Society for its service to the Black community in astronomy and other space-related fields.

Grad Student Appreciation Week (GSAW) is celebrated the first week of April each year and will be observed April 3 - 7, 2023. The purpose of this week is to celebrate and emphasize the contributions, impact, and value of our graduate and professional students. Units across Tech celebrate all graduate students in various ways (online and in-person) throughout the week. The week also features the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition finals, which takes place on April 6

Applications open for the JP Morgan Ph.D. Fellowship
|
The JP Morgan Ph.D. Fellowship Program is Intended to support novel and impactful thesis work of Ph.D. students and enables opportunities for Ph.D. students to engage with research professionals at JPMC. This fellowship includes a yearly award that partially supports tuition and stipend. The deadline for Non-CoC students is Friday, March 17; CoC students: Friday, March 3, or as directed by your unit.

Applications open for the Goizueta Foundation Fellowship

The Goizueta Foundation Fellowship at Georgia Tech is designed to assist the Institute in its efforts to attract and promote exceptional graduate students of Hispanic/Latino descent who are interested in pursuing their Ph.D. at Georgia Tech. Since 2002, more than 200 students have been supported by this fellowship. The deadline to apply is March 6 by midnight. A letter of recommendation must be included with your application.

Your graduate student government association (GSGA) is writing a Graduate Student Bill of Rights and need your input! Plan to attend GSGA's town hall meeting in Smithgall (The Flag Building) room 117 on Wednesday, February 28th and March 14th at 11 a.m. to weigh in on current issues affecting graduate students. Grad students and faculty alike are requested to join and speak out during each town hall. The Graduate Student Bill of Rights represents a crucial step in aiding the mental health, well-being, and overall graduate experience at Georgia Tech.
