Important Update
Dear St. Michael’s Families,
As we have previously shared, things continue to change daily as our state and country responds to the COVID-19 situation. Today, Governor Northam announced that all public and all private schools must remain closed for in-school learning until the end of the academic year.
Please know that we need to assess shifts the School needs to make in light of this breaking news. More information will be forthcoming regarding a plan for families to safely retrieve belongings from lockers and cubbies, refunds for spring after-school sports and enrichment activities, ideas for graduation and celebrating the Class of 2020, and more.
While the campus may be closed, the good news is that our community remains connected and LEARNING CONTINUES! St. Michael’s is committed to delivering upon our mission of superior academic instruction and providing our students with an engaging remote learning program. As school systems across the Commonwealth are now struggling to understand whether and how they will deliver their programs through the rest of the school year, we have already put into place what we believe to be a good model -- a model that we will refine as we progress forward. St. Michael's believes that our students deserve nothing less.
With abundant thanks, we are pleased to share that our Dragon families “filled our buckets” today with so many encouraging words about the first day of remote schooling:
- “Couldn't love St. Michael’s more. So thankful for the sweet teachers and incredible work that has gone into distance learning. Seeing his teacher and class for morning meeting was such a bright spot for [our son] today."
- “Reading through the material you all have spent hours creating in preparation for the beginning of remote learning, we are truly amazed at the thoroughness and guidance [St M has] provided. Thank you for the positive example you’re setting for our children, showing them (and us!) that no matter what circumstances we face, we’re all in this together and can learn and play and stay connected through it all.”
- “Oh my gosh — school is going great! I am downstairs working and [my son] is upstairs ‘in class’ and collaborating with classmates on assignments. AMAZING!! Thank you all!”
- From a teacher: “I just got off the live part of my school day. It was such a treasure! All these children were singing ‘This Is The Day The Lord Has Made.’ We ended with virtual hugs and lots of love. I think we will figure this out after all!”
We are counting our blessings every day for the amazing students, families, and faculty that make up our vibrant community. THANK YOU for your continued resilience, patience, and positive energy.
Sincerely,
Bob Gregg
