Dear Duke Family,

Welcome to Fall 2024 at Duke University!

The Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards (OSCCS) has moved locations. OSCCS is located on the Second Floor of Bay 5, Smith Warehouse, 114 South Buchanan Boulevard.

The OSCCS is excited to share our Duke Community Standard awareness campaign to #HoldHighTheStandard at Duke...the Duke Community Standard that is!

The Duke Community Standard represents the highest ideals and expectations for all Duke students. As a member of this prestigious community of scholars, we expect that each and every student at Duke commits to #HoldHighTheStandard at Duke!
"To uphold the Duke Community Standard:
·        I will not lie, cheat, or steal in my academic endeavors;
·        I will conduct myself honorably in all my endeavors; and
·       I will act if the Standard is compromised."

DCS Guide Updates

We regularly review and update our policies to keep our students safe and to meet their needs. We are excited to share these updates with you. Below you will find a brief description of the updates. Please refer to the Guide to read the updates in their entirety.
Advertisements (Banners, Posters, Promotion and Publicity)
This policy was updated in Spring 2024. Students should know that this policy includes electronic communication and advertisements including messages, images, posts/reposts, and shares in any online format/forum.
Discrimination/Harassment
Beginning Fall 2024, the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) investigates and facilitates the adjudication of all matters related to the Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment, and Related Misconduct (PPDHRM). The Division of Student Affairs continues to be a point of contact, providing impacted students with resources and supportive measures (including No-Contact Directives and Accommodations).
Disturbance, Interference, and Disorderly Conduct
This policy was updated in Spring 2024. Students should know that this policy includes behavior both on and off campus, including online behavior.

Faculty Student Resolution (FSR)
As you may know, an FSR is a one-time optional resolution process for cases of academic dishonesty involving eligible undergraduates for only first-time offenses. The student’s academic dean must now sign the FSR form with the student and course instructor to ensure the agreed resolution complies with the Undergraduate Bulletin and applicable grading policies.

New Duke Identification Card Policy
Correction 8/29/24: This policy is not new to Duke University; however, it has been newly included and highlighted in this year's DCS Guide.
All students are expected to carry (or display, at university official request) either their physical Duke Card or Mobile Duke Card while on campus.

Protest, Pickets and Demonstrations Policy
Protests, Pickets and Demonstrations are considered events and must comply with the university's Event Registration Policy.
If you would like to a plan a Protest, Picket, or Demonstration, you should contact Student Involvement and Leadership (SIL) leadership@duke.edu. Additionally, here are guidelines from SIL to successfully and safely plan these events.
Hold High the Standard at Duke

With such exciting opportunities ahead, there also comes great responsibility -- as a member of the Duke Community, you are expected to "Hold High the Standard!"--the Duke Community Standard. This means committing to acting with integrity both in and out of the classroom, familiarizing yourself with all of Duke's Policies, Rules, and Regulations, and treating everyone in this community and beyond with respect and civility while encouraging your peers to do the same.

As a member of the thriving community of scholars at Duke University, we are proud to provide you with a safe and healthy environment that supports your learning and helps you thrive in your chosen major, grow as a maturing adult, engage in the array of student activities offered on campus, research with faculty, network with future employers, connect meaningfully with your peers, and lead with integrity!
When you commit to #HoldHightheStandardatDuke, you commit to doing your part to meet the expectations of Duke's Community Standard first, and then to encourage your peers to do the same.  If your peers are making decisions that do not uphold the Duke Community Standard, there are 3 things you can do:

  1. Separate yourself from the incident or behavior
  1. Speak up and confront them directly
  1. Share with another member of the community that can help such as a Resident Assistant, Assistant Residence Coordinator, Residence Coordinator, DUPD, a Faculty/Staff member, or OSCCS
To share information about possible violations of the Duke Community Standard you can submit an OSCCS Incident Report here:
