Acts 26: 15 - 18
15 “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’
“ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied. 16 ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

New International Version (NIV)
What in the world is Jesus doing today? This feels like a really good day to pray. Every day is a good day to pray. Lorne Sanny said a day spent in prayer should ask two questions:  “Who are you Lord?” And “What do you want me to do?” In Paul’s first retelling of his conversion experience, he told the crowd that he had asked Jesus those two questions as he knelt in the dust of the road to Damascus (Acts 22:8, 10).

Jesus answered Paul’s questions. The Lord answered, “I am Jesus.” Two young ladies we baptized yesterday morning made their good confession, “Jesus is Lord.” Knowing that Jesus is the sovereign Lord of the universe should allay some of our fears today. We can make this confession every day:  “Jesus, you are Lord of all.” Since he is Lord of all, he is also Lord over us.

Jesus told Paul that he had plans for him. God was appointing him as a servant and witness to tell others he had seen Jesus. In the rest of Jesus’ words, we find an answer to his work in the world today. God rescues us and sends us out to open the eyes of the spiritually blind. The work of God today is to turn people from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God. What God wants for every person is that we may choose to receive his forgiveness and become a part of the community of faith, sanctified by trusting in Jesus. Have we repented? Are we growing to become more like Jesus? If not, why not?

Is that what we are working on today? Now that we know what God is doing today, let’s join him in that work. A popular Christian song says, “Everybody needs a Savior.” You do. I do. Donald does. Kamala does. Paul had a choice that day. We all do. Today if we repent of our sins, confess them, and turn back to Christ, we will be saved, and we can help others. Will we?

Pray with me:
Who are you Lord? What do you want us to do? Save us today, God. You, alone, are our help. The arm of flesh will fail us. You, on the other hand, can do anything but fail.  Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us, we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals are in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
